Position Summary
The Systems Operations Contractor provides senior-level enterprise IT operations support, including system monitoring, batch processing, incident response, and production support. This role partners with cross-functional technical teams to ensure system availability, operational stability, and timely resolution of production issues.
The contractor delivers advanced operational and service desk support by responding to production incidents, service requests, and project-related operational needs. Responsibilities include researching and troubleshooting complex technical issues, communicating status updates to stakeholders, documenting activities in service management systems, and resolving issues in accordance with established processes and timelines.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Operations Support
- Monitor enterprise systems across Linux and Windows environments.
- Provide production support for online systems, batch processing, and file transfer operations.
- Manage batch job scheduling, execution, and failure analysis using enterprise scheduling tools.
- Perform root cause analysis for system, application, and infrastructure incidents.
- Ensure system stability, availability, and performance across environments.
Incident & Service Management
- Provide ITIL-aligned support including incident, problem, and service request management.
- Document incidents, workflows, resolutions, and operational procedures in service management systems.
- Communicate technical issues and resolution steps clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Operational Documentation & Readiness
- Develop, maintain, and update operational documentation, including runbooks and playbooks.
- Review technical documentation related to system changes and deployments.
- Identify operational risks and communicate potential impacts to leadership.
- Support application lifecycle management and production readiness activities.
Collaboration & Support Model
- Coordinate with application support, development, infrastructure, and operations teams.
- Support system enhancements, deployments, and ongoing production changes.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation as part of a team-based operations model.
- Manage multiple priorities independently with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of enterprise systems monitoring and incident response experience across Linux and Windows environments.
- 5+ years of production operations support for online systems, batch processing, and file transfers.
- 3+ years of batch scheduling and failure analysis experience using enterprise schedulers (e.g., Control-M or equivalent).
- 5+ years of root cause analysis and troubleshooting experience across system, application, and infrastructure layers.
- 3+ years of ITIL-aligned operational support experience.
- 4+ years of service desk and customer support experience.
- 3+ years of operational documentation development (runbooks, playbooks).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Experience supporting 24x7 operations environments with on-call responsibilities.
Highly Desired
- UNIX/Linux administration experience, including CRON scheduling and shell scripting (Bash, Perl).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.
- Experience supporting large-scale, multi-user enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of application lifecycle management and production readiness best practices.
