This role requires a visionary thinker and enterprise architect who can bridge technology and business, driving the platform s strategic direction, aligning cross-functional teams, and ensuring technical excellence within a complex, regulated healthcare environment. You will work closely with executive leadership, product owners, clinical and operational stakeholders, and engineering teams to deliver cutting-edge, scalable, and compliant solutions that shape the future of healthcare data technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Technology Leadership:

Define and own the end-to-end technology vision and roadmap for the healthcare data platform, championing innovation to solve complex healthcare challenges while meeting regulatory and compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.).Align technical architecture with business strategy and customer-centric outcomes.

  • Platform Architecture & Design:

Architect a secure, scalable, and extensible data platform encompassing ingestion pipelines, data warehouses, analytics layers, and external API interfaces. Incorporate

cloud-native architectures leveraging Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure. Ensure design supports interoperability with EHRs, claims, lab systems, and third-party data sources using industry standards and clinical vocabularies.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

Partner with business leaders, product management, data science, clinical, compliance, and operations teams to translate healthcare use cases and regulatory

requirements into clear technical strategies and deliverables. Serve as the primary technical liaison in executive discussions, providing input on feasibility, risk, and innovation opportunities.

  • Engineering Team Leadership & Mentorship:

Lead, mentor, and empower engineering teams in agile delivery, high code quality, security best practices, and continuous improvement. Promote a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and accountability. Guide hands-on development for complex components, validate critical design decisions, and resolve escalated technical challenges.

  • Compliance, Security & Risk Management:

Embed robust healthcare compliance and security frameworks in platform design, including data privacy, auditability, and risk mitigation aligned with HIPAA, SOC 2,

and other relevant standards. Collaborate with infosec teams on vulnerability management, identity, and access management (e.g., Duende Identity Server, Microsoft Entra ID), and continuous compliance monitoring.

  • DevOps & Infrastructure Automation:

Define and oversee implementation of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform), observability (Datadog, Sumologic, OpsGenie), and automated testing frameworks across microservices and data pipelines.

  • Technology Evaluation & Vendor Management:

Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, cloud services (GKE, Cloud Storage, Vertex AI, etc.), and third-party tools (Apigee API Gateway, SonarQube, Snyk) to

optimize platform performance, cost, and security. Manage external partnerships and vendor solutions, as necessary.

  • Performance Metrics & Business Alignment:

Establish and track key technical and operational KPIs to ensure platform reliability, scalability, and contribution to business objectives. Present regular updates and technical insights to executive leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with 10+ years in solution/enterprise architecture and technical leadership.
  • Proven expertise in building large-scale healthcare data platforms, with deep knowledge of healthcare data standards, clinical vocabularies, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred, AWS and Azure experience a plus), data architectures, event streaming, and data mesh concepts.
  • Hands-on skills in Java (backend microservices), Python (data pipelines, Airflow), and SQL (BigQuery, Cloud SQL, ETL).
  • Experience leading cloud-native Kubernetes environments (GKE) and managing modern data infrastructure components like ClickHouse, Apache Airflow, dbt, and Vertex AI.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing API lifecycle and security using API gateways (Apigee) and modern identity providers.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tooling: Terraform, Jenkins, Google Cloud Platform Cloud Build, SonarQube, Snyk, Tenable.
