The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. The Hardware Engineering, Advanced Airframes Department is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to support a proprietary program located in Tucson, Arizona.
What You Will Do
- This position will serve as the lead for responsible engineering authorities (REAs) supporting the program through hardware procurement, integration, and qualification activities.
- Typically viewed as a subject matter expert within the mechanical discipline. Have advanced knowledge of the mechanical development process with an emphasis on producibility.
- Requires extensive knowledge of Raytheon policies and engagement across disciplines including quality and supply chain. Tasks include supporting development or production, leading proposal activities, and technical management of mechanical engineering disciplines throughout the product life cycle.
- Lead team of REAs to support design, development, integration, and delivery of major sections of all-up-round.
- Lead team in defining configurations of the build of each section for multiple AURs in cooperation with program leadership.
- Coordinate material delivery and availability with Supply Chain.
- Lead team to drive supplier engagement across multiple critical suppliers to resolve technical issues and complete deliveries on time to support program needs.
- Lead planning and execution of material mitigation details. Plan and coordinate completion of Variances, Change Requests/Change Notices to align to mitigation plans.
- Own resolution of Supplier Requests that impact released TDP
- Lead plan and execution of requirements verification across team
- Identify staffing needs, work with IPT Lead to fill open positions in a timely manner
- Partner with Control Account Manager and IPT Lead to plan tasking, status Earned Value details monthly, provide inputs to the monthly Estimate to Complete (ETC) and quarterly Estimate at Completion (EAC).
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test, preferably of defense-related components or systems
- Experience in airframe development, or electronics packaging, or mechanisms, for missiles or similar applications
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware
Qualifications We Prefer
- Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering disciplines
- Experience with thermal and structural analyses or with analysts to specify requirements and design to environments.
- Experience with effective communication (written and verbal) during collaboration with others to document design actions and results, to perform trade studies, and to communicate to program management and customers through presentations and reports.
- Strong understanding of producibility best practices and DFMA design principles.
- Experience developing and executing a plan to development a mechanical component or subsystem
- Ability to solve complex problems
- Experience coaching, reviewing, and delegating work to lower-level professionals
