Test Lead / Engagement Lead - NextGen Maintenance & Mobility (NGMM)

Position Overview

The Test Lead / Engagement Lead will oversee testing activities for the NextGen Maintenance & Mobility (NGMM) program, a one-year initiative focused on transforming asset reliability and maintenance across Refining and Midstream organizations. This role requires a proven leader with experience driving quality change across medium to large programs, strong accountability for delivery outcomes, and the ability to operate independently without significant oversight. The Test Lead will define and execute a comprehensive testing strategy emphasizing integration and functional testing, maximizing automation, and supplementing with exploratory techniques. Success in this role depends on clear communication, thoughtful risk escalation, and strong stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Leadership & Accountability
    • Drive quality transformation across NGMM by embedding testing practices into delivery workflows.
    • Take ownership of testing outcomes, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met without hand-holding.
    • Provide clear, concise communication of processes, risks, and progress to stakeholders.
  • Agile & SAFe Practices
    • Apply agile frameworks (SAFe or similar) to align testing with iterative delivery cycles.
    • Use flow metrics (feature queue times, WIP, lead time for changes, deployment frequency) to measure and improve quality outcomes.
    • Champion continuous improvement practices that enhance delivery speed and reliability.
  • Test Strategy & Execution
    • Define and maintain a user-centric test strategy covering integration, functionality, performance, mobility, and reliability.
    • Encourage and implement Behavior Driven Development (BDD) practices to align testing with business workflows.
    • Lead SIT and UAT cycles, ensuring readiness and alignment with project milestones.
  • Automation & Tools
    • Maximize automation for integration and functional testing, supplemented with exploratory testing.
    • Leverage Azure DevOps and Azure Test Plans for test management, execution, and reporting.
    • Ensure developed tests support SIT and UAT events, as well as performance and mobility testing.
  • Defect & Risk Management
    • Oversee defect lifecycle: logging, tracking, triaging, prioritizing, and assigning for resolution.
    • Identify, communicate, and escalate risks thoughtfully across the organization.
    • Ensure timely resolution of issues to maintain delivery speed and quality.
  • Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Generate and share test execution reports with stakeholders at key milestones.
    • Conduct regular review meetings to discuss progress, issues, and next steps.
    • Establish a feedback loop to continuously improve testing processes.

  • Proven experience as a Test Lead driving quality change in medium to large-scale programs.
  • Strong leadership accountability with the ability to operate independently and deliver results.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and risk management skills.
  • Hands-on experience with agile frameworks (SAFe or similar).
  • Recent familiarity with Azure DevOps and Azure Test Plans.
  • Solid understanding of flow metrics (feature queue times, WIP, lead time for changes, deployment frequency) and how testing practices influence them.
  • Expertise in integration and functional testing, with automation and exploratory testing experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 testing and integration validation.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with complex multi-vendor integration programs and testing of boundary applications during SIT and UAT."
  • Background in performance and mobility testing.
  • Knowledge of asset reliability and maintenance workflows in industrial or energy sectors.
