Job Description:

  • Provide engineering and technical leadership role within the Public Safety programs;
  • Work with implementation engineer from NICE Systems, VESTA Solutions, all internal DoITT teams, and external vendors;
  • Review and evaluate software and network design issues, ensure efficient data flow, scalability, cost-efficiency, and application needs;
  • Design and code router/switch configurations;
  • Implement new processes/functions on routers and switches, including but not limited to SIP, QoS, multicasting, NTP, VLAN configurations, TACACS, HSRP, Content Networking, and advanced network routing;
  • Provide advanced-level technical assistance for network problems as reported to the Citywide Service Desk;
  • Document problem tickets regarding the resolution of problems;
  • Provide advanced network assistance in new project development;
  • Attend Project meetings to assess Network infrastructure needs and required design augmentations that may be required;
  • Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN);
  • Configure and install software, servers, routers and other network devices;
  • Monitor network performance and integrity;
  • Resolve issues tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure;
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness;
  • Providence to team members on technical issues;
  • Create, oversee and test network resiliency measures;
  • Communicate with upper management when needed;
  • Maintain complete technical documentation, high and low level design;
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity, scalability and resiliency;
  • Perform special technology projects and initiatives as assigned.


Preferred skills:

  • Combined 10+ years of experience with strong design, deployment and troubleshooting experience with mid to large enterprise network design/implementations: design and configure Cisco Nexus and IOS range of routers and switches; design and configure advanced routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP); design and configure F5 LTM and GTM load-balancers;
  • Ability to facilitate the technical designs and architecture discussion with clients, excellent communications and writing skills required;
  • Expert in troubleshooting and problem solving skills;
  • In depth knowledge of core routing and switching design using Cisco recommended best practices;
  • 10+ Year of experience as a Senior Network Engineer;
  • Possess skills in routing/switching with two or more of the following technologies:
  • Cisco Datacenter Technologies (OTV, VxLAN, VPC/VSS, Nexus 9k ACI and Non-ACI modes);
  • Experience with Cisco/Avaya Wireless and VoIP technologies;
  • Deep understanding of all technologies supporting existing PSAC, NICE logging and recording system, VESTA, NYPD PCT, FDNY ARDs and EMT voice and text conversations, Text-to-911.
  • Understanding of Network security technology (NG Firewalls, VPN, IOS base security practices, etc.);
  • Understanding of Oracle SIP/Voice Gateways devices and detail knowledge of the SIP protocols;
  • Understanding of Cisco Collaboration Systems (CUCM, UCCX, UCCE, Expressway, CUBE);
  • Experience managing Infrastructure supporting Internet and Wide Area Networks; with general understanding of Proxy, DNS, Domain Controllers, LDAP services and application dependencies;
  • Strong understanding of MPLS protocols, Multicast BSR Designs, Enterprise QoS deployments, ipv6 dual-stack deployments, DWDM Technologies, LAN/WAN network design, and configuration, and troubleshooting;
  • Strong understanding of IP/IPv6 based networks, subnetting, and advanced routing protocols is required;
  • Understanding of Network security technology (NG Firewalls, VPN, IOS base security practices, etc.);
  • Understanding of Enterprise based protocols; DNS, LDAP, Domain Controllers, Radius/TACACS authentication , VMWAre technologies (ESXi virtualization, NSX-T, AVI loadbalancing);
  • Basic understanding of Azure/AWS Express Route (SaaS, PaaS and IaaS);
  • Strong understanding of IP based networks, subnetting, and advanced routing protocols;
  • Ability to write scripts in Python, TCL, Perl, or other languages is a plus.


Qualification Requirements: 

1.BA/BS including 24 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or related field and 4 years of related work experience where 18 months must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.

2. An Associates degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 credits in the field and 5 years’ work experience as described in "1" above;

3. Education and/or experience equivalent.
