THE OPPORTUNITY
Scholastic Technology Services (STS) builds and operates a wide variety of internal and external systems supporting the operations of all Scholastic lines of business and technical infrastructure. STS products touch millions of customers, from Book Clubs and Fairs, to millions of students using Scholastic digital learning products to learn to read. The diversity of the technical landscape, from best of breed SaaS solutions for ERP, CRM, SCM, etc., to custom, bespoke development of digital learning products, and complex vendor landscape present a variety of challenges.
STS is seeking a seasoned software quality professional to guide the organization to new levels of quality and reliability and continuing to grow the trust our customers have in the Scholastic brand. The successful quality leader will have a tangible positive impact on Scholastic's financial performance, market share, and customer experience. At the end of the day, Scholastic's mission is to build the skill for reading and develop a love of reading. In STS, technology is frequently the access path to the reading experience itself and the quality of those experiences directly impacts our ability to deliver on that mission.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and execute on an overall approach and strategy to software quality across Scholastic Technology Services.
- Defining and implementing quality metrics, KPIs and OKRs with respect to software quality, establishing and implementing an approach to create visibility into the state of software quality across teams, products, and platforms
- Defining and operating software quality processes broadly, from project inception, through epic and story writing and requirements elicitation, through build, release, and operational activities
- Establish test strategy, test design, test execution, and test analysis practices and ensuring that these testing components are implemented strongly across teams and individual quality roles
- Ensure that performance testing strategies and methodology are appropriately defined and executed and support the capacity planning and related reliability/availability objectives of STS services and products.
- Establish integration and total-solution quality roles and practices to ensure that delivered solutions meet end user and stakeholder needs across the entire solution, not just within individual components
- Developing and deploying the appropriate technical infrastructure to support the quality strategy, appropriately aligned with other technology strategy components (tech stack, DevOps tools and processes, other tool chains)
- Aligning the organization structure and working relationships within technical and business teams to the quality strategy
- Direct leadership and management of staff in quality roles, as aligned with the organizational approach, including leading by influence
- Evolving the roles and responsibilities related to software quality, whether under direct or indirect management
- Establishing training and professional development opportunities in support of quality goals
- Be a visible advocate and champion for software quality internally within Scholastic and externally (in partnership with corporate communications, social media policies and practices)
- Enable visibility and clarity on the costs and benefits of investments in software quality
- Continually evolving Scholastic's quality approach based on emerging tools, techniques, and practices

Qualifications
HOW YOU CAN FIT (Qualifications)
- BA or BS in a technical discipline, advanced degree strongly preferred.
- Career track in quality, with individual contributor roles through senior levels as a technical contributor and into leadership roles.
- Demonstrated leadership skills at a senior level, director level or above, leading multiple teams.
- Prior experience developing and implementing quality strategies and processes, including but not limited to approaches for test strategy, test plans and test suites, test analysis and reporting, performance testing, quality dashboards at the project, program and organizational levels, root cause analysis, requirement/story quality, integration with DevOps processes and practices, integration with customer service/support to ensure a "view of the customer" quality perspective.
- Prior experience must include both enterprise technology development and consumer-facing software product development in SaaS delivery models, with product scale to include millions of users.
- Outstanding expertise in Agile methodologies, including implementation of relevant agile metrics and the interpretation of agile metrics as they relate to software quality.
- Strong prior experience with DevOps and/or SRE operations model, including demonstrated ability to partner strongly with teams and staff in infrastructure, operations, and service/support.
- Vendor management is required, especially relating to quality tools, outsourcing vendors and partners.
- Prior experience with offshore and hybrid team models is required.
- Strong financial acumen is required, including prior experience building business cases, software quality cost models, and tracking ROI over time.
