Description:
Are you a Packaging Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact? Our client, located in Owatonna, MN, is seeking a talented Packaging Engineer to join our team. As a Packaging Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and secure transit of our products to customers while optimizing packaging costs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
  • Experience in designing packaging solutions involving corrugation, pallets/crates, and molded cushioning foams.
  • Proficiency in packaging components, material compatibility, and related technologies for developing, testing, and implementing new product packaging and delivery systems.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD software.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three (3) years of Packaging Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Value Stream Mapping and Process Optimization.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of Label Matrix.
  • Familiarity with Auto Bagging Solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Packaging Engineer , you will:
  • Develop packages, package components, and packaging systems that align with internal and external customer needs, supporting business growth, quality, and productivity objectives while safeguarding products during transit.
  • Establish test procedures for packages, package components, and packaging systems to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and density standards.
  • Monitor project performance to ensure alignment with the strategic plan, adhering to timelines and budgets.
  • Create designs, drawings, and prototype samples using SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD software.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to coordinate packaging-related activities for product launches.
  • Identify and pursue cost reduction opportunities related to product packaging design, materials, packing labor, and freight classifications.
  • Communicate issues and risks to schedules, costs, and quality in a timely manner, actively seeking and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Recommend packaging suppliers and work closely with the Purchasing team to manage quality, cost, delivery, and logistics.
  • Provide technical expertise and consult on packaging best practices to enhance business performance.
  • Manage corrective actions with service providers and vendors to address packaging issues.
  • Identify opportunities for returnable packaging and drive implementation through the Supply Chain.
  • Utilize drop testers and vibration tables as needed to validate packaging designs.
  • Maintain ISTA Certification for the test lab.
  • Implement Packaging Design for Manufacturability, focusing on ergonomics and minimizing total costs.
