VP - Data Management

As an EXL VP of Data Management, you will provide leadership and technical expertise in requirements identification, data modeling, data movement and transformation mapping (source to target), automation and testing strategies and translating business needs into technical solutions with adherence to established data guidelines and approaches from an enterprise perspective. You will oversee large and complex EDM projects encompassing Data Platforms and Architecture, Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Engineering, and Reporting, Analytics, and Data Visualization initiatives. Operating both independently and collaboratively, you will liaise with internal and client business and technical teams to ensure seamless project execution. You will contribute to the body of knowledge within the industry, staying ahead of emerging trends and technologies. This may include speaking at conferences, publishing articles, and leading internal training programs.

Your role is both strategic and tactical. You understand and leverage best-fit technologies and approaches that align with business goals and environmental challenges and will contribute to the vision and solution outline for client engagements and oversee and guide the technical engagement team in the implementation of the vision for clients. You will improve the methods, tools, and norms used in different projects and ensure that our data capabilities support the wider organizational objectives. You will significantly contribute to business development efforts, helping to secure new client engagements and maintain existing relationships.

Who will you work with?

This position engages closely with client stakeholders and project participants from the business and IT. You will also work in partnership with highly experienced EXL Vertical Leads, Engagement Managers and technical consultants including Business and Data Analysts, Cloud Architects, Data Architects, Data Engineers, and Reporting & Analytics Engineers.

• Hours of operation are typically business hours adjusted to the clients we support in each time zone. Most of the working day is 8-5, except for some early or late meetings to meet with multi-shore project teams.

On any one day you might

• Communicate with Account Executives and clients regarding scope and prioritization of work.
• Collaborate with Analysts, Data Architects and Engineers to identify innovative ways to improve project processes and address concerns.
• Coach/mentor a team member by providing feedback to elevate their performance.
• Support an account executive in the creation of a Statement of Work, Request for Proposal, level of effort and cost estimates, and resource planning for a client.
• Support and participate in an EXL internal project, training, documentations, and delivery methodology to enhance our capabilities.
• Conduct assessment, discovery, proof of concept, technology evaluation based on client and business requirements.
• Lead technical delivery at any stage of a project.

Essential Duties

60% Client Management, Delivery and Growth

• Manage key clients and work with Sales, Vertical Leads and Engagement Managers to deliver target, annual revenue goals and ensure client satisfaction by creating partnership with clients that results in growth of existing services and cross selling of additional products and services

• Primary liaison with the key business sponsors at clients, develop and maintain key relationships, discern key strategic goals and plans of clients, act as gatekeeper to clients, be the voice of the clients within EXL
• Solutioning - Understand pain points / requirements for the client and map relevant products, services and solutions to those, including working with EXL s Product, Service and Solutioning areas to develop customized solutions as appropriate; Lead project along with solutioning to deliver the appropriate offerings and the right value proposition to the client;
• Work with Sales to identify / expand / up-sell programs to client - this could be up-selling to the current client group and / or getting additional contacts within the client and delivering new solutions

• Collaborate with client stakeholders at various levels to plan and execute data strategies and solutions, customized for different client contexts, across various industries.
• Perform Data Management evaluations, create recommendations, templates and plans based on the needed outcomes.
• Perform tool evaluations and implementations within the data management space (DE, DG, DQ, MDM, etc.). Manage vendor relationship on behalf of project or client.
• Create rationale for client Data Management initiatives and help position team for implementation engagements.
• Facilitate Data Management meetings and workshops.
• Assist technical leads and developers with addressing business and data related questions and concerns.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and participate in project planning.
• Perform feasibility analysis, scope projects, and work with the project manager to prioritize deliverables.
• Acts as the liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams.
• Support presales activities by:
• Participating in prospect/client meetings
• Crafting and delivering content/presentations
• Developing engagement proposals and responding to RFP s
• Creating solution cost estimates, TCO, and resource plan
• Conducting product demos

30% Capability Growth and Leadership

• Grow the EXL Data Management capabilities by adding to best practices, developing new or enhancing existing capabilities, providing thought leadership, supporting the sales team, and coaching more junior consultants on Data Management.
• Lead the strategic oversight and management of data management tool vendor relationships, ensuring alignment with our data management methodologies and standards.
• Utilize your subject matter E=expertise for Data Management across EXL to help win and grow existing clients.
• Develop and implement innovative thought leadership and techniques using generative AI.
• Manage direct team members. Provide leadership support (including escalation) and coaching to other team members.
• Assist with the recruiting of new consulting employees and contract resources by performing technical and non-technical interviews and providing feedback to hiring manager and recruiting.

Education & Experience

• 15+ years of Enterprise Data Management experience
• 10+ years of consulting experience strongly preferred
• 7+ years of experience working collaboratively and/or leading global teams
• Must have practical experience in the following areas:
• Experience with using current modern database platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks.) and how they support large and complex data and analytics solutions.
• Knowledge of implementation best practice and reference architectures
• Cloud architecture and implementation focused on Data Management and building repeatable patterns
• Knowledge and implementation experience of other cloud services like security, access management, networking, monitoring, DevOps, and cost management.
• Experience with actual design and implementation in one or more of the Data Management pillars: Data Architecture, Data Engineering, Data Governance / Quality, MDM, Cloud Architecture, etc.
• Experience with at least one programming or scripting language and solid experience with performance optimizations.
• In depth understanding of various API constructs.
• Experience with Big Data best practices and the Hadoop technology stack.
• Experience implementing a form of streaming or messaging technologies.
• Understanding of ETL, ELT, Change Data Capture (CDC), Data Warehousing and Data Marts is required coupled with data pipeline orchestration and enterprise scheduling.
• Solid understanding of all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle and process methodologies including CICD data pipeline automation and deployment strategies
• Experience working with business and IT functions in a variety of corporate cultures, as both an employee and consultant
• Experienced working in centralized and federated corporate structures
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in business terms and complex business concepts in technical terms.
• Strong experience in interviewing and group facilitation.
