Job Description

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Database Administrator for Enterprise Application Services (EAS) . This position reports to the Associate Director of the Data Management & Analytics and is expected to provide technical leadership to EAS staff, staff in other OIT divisions, and OIT clients in the planning and implementation of complex projects requiring significant special database expertise. The Senior Database Administrator is primarily responsible for the optimal performance of Oracle RDBMS systems and SQL Server Cluster environments.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for the installation, configurations, performance and design of the database environment supporting EAS applications and control systems.
  • Directs the analysis of vendor supplied software and determines the optimum configuration for interfaces between hardware, database management systems and application systems.
  • Ensures control over modifications or enhancements to systems software to ensure minimum impact on production systems under development.
  • Recommends the establishment of and enforces standards relating to use of system software.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of systems and making recommendations for improvements to management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technology field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of six years progressive experience in a database administration environment with emphasis on Oracle database management systems and MS-SQLServer.
  • Competency in Oracle Recovery Manager.
  • Ability to install, setup & configure Oracle databases in development and test environments.
  • Ability to administer and troubleshoot Oracle databases including security patching, SQL tuning, capacity planning, and schema design.
  • Experienced in performing backup and recovery procedures using Oracle RMAN
  • Very good understanding of Oracle design, architecture, security & performance tuning.
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Good problem solving skills and resourceful.
  • Good oral & written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications as an Oracle DBA (OCP) and/or IMS DBA are also preferred.
  • Tableau Server Administration is also a plus.
  • Certifications as an Oracle DBA (OCP) and/or SQLServer administration are also preferred.
  • Write UNIX shell and Windows cmd scripts for environment and application support.
  • Expertise as Oracle Sr. DBA with SQL Server and MySQL and Postgres is a plus.
  • In addition database technologies, it is also preferred that the candidate is familiar with other tools and software surrounding the database environment, such as, WebLogic Application Servers, Informatica Power Center suite, other ETL and Reporting technologies. Tableau Server Administration is also a plus.
