The Director of Network Engineering reports directly to the Executive Director of IT Infrastructure, and is a
key participant in determining and steering the strategic direction for data, voice and video networking.
The Director of Network Engineering has the primary responsibility for the vision, planning, and operations
of the Network Engineering, including leading a highly technically-focused unit. The unit is responsible for
architecting, engineering, implementing and operating the client's data, voice and video networks, which is
distributed across California, Washington and Beijing.
Lead the vision, planning, and operations for the wired and wireless data, and voice network.
Collaborate with stakeholders and technology partners to develop, communicate and execute a
strategic plan for Network Engineering that ensures an infrastructure that serves the needs of client.
Advise executive leadership on technical strategy for Network Engineering.
Set long-range direction and make high-level decisions; propose and lead the implementation of
complex and significant change; establish policies and processes as needed.
Responsible for implementing, maintaining and enhancing the internal systems and tools that
Network Engineering relies upon to proactively identify and resolve potential problem areas, and
effectively address issues.
Own the adoption and adaptation of new technologies to meet changing requirements, capabilities,
Lead high-level programs and initiatives through technical design, development, and integration.
Develop and retain a highly technical, competent, and diverse leadership group and workforce;
recruit, lead and mentor key management staff through motivation and education; provide a clear
vision and sense of mission for the organization; function as a change agent.
Direct and run strategic relationships both inside and outside of client; maintain a high level of
interaction and collaboration with clients and peers across all client entities; negotiate with and
influence university leaders on issues that have university-wide impact; maintain a high level of
interaction and collaboration with clients and peers across the university; build relationships with key

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and
abilities as well as possession of any relevant licenses or certifications. Technology skills should include the

Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of increasingly technical work experience, or a combination of
education and relevant experience.
Must have substantial managerial experience in formulating, planning, leading, and controlling a
complex, broad, and highly technical function.
