Role: L3 WAN / LAN Engineer

Location: Commerce , LA

Duration: Long Term

Relevant Experience: 6-8 Years


Experience supporting both Wide Area Network and Local Area Network technologies in a large-scale geographically diverse environment including Remote support

  • Responsible for analyzing and developing wireless telecommunications capabilities for various operations

Extensive Cisco experience with the following technologies protocols & techniques:

Experience with MPLS

Experience with Nexus

Experience with WAAS

IP Routing (e.g. RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, MPLS and BGP) & route control mechanisms (route filtering, route maps, etc.)

LAN communications (including 802.1q-based VLANs, link aggregation & Cisco VTP)

WAN communications (including ML-PPP, frame relay & ATM)

Packet encryption (IPSEC, ISAKMP, DMVPN, etc.)

Network management protocols (SNMP, DHCP, DNS, etc.)

Process automation through scripting (e.g. Shell, Perl etc.)

Advanced Troubleshooting Skills

Switches: Cisco Nexus 7K, 5K, 2K, Cisco 6500, 4500, 3750, 3550, 2960, 2950

Routers: Cisco 7609, 7606, 3800, 3700, 3600

. Switch concepts VTP, STP, LACP, HSRP, VPC on Nexus switches

. Tunnel concepts VPN, DMVPN, crypto maps.

. Experience on HP Blade switches, 6500s, 3750 stack switches desired.

Job Summary: -

Primary responsibilities

    • Design and build custom applications.
    • Design, plan, establish, and optimize wireless networks.
    • Develop wireless network infrastructures and make recommendations on systems enhancements for optimization.
    • Lead and supervise teams.
    • Provide technical assessment of requirements and definition from conception to launch.
    • Train and mentor other engineers.
    • Design and validate RF link performance, quality and reliability.
    • Use measuring and diagnostic tools to test and adjust equipment.
    • Create manuals and support documentation.
    • Develop software for wireless technology.
    • Optimize existing network by adjusting radio network parameters, adding/deleting of neighbors and recommending possible solutions to hardware problems.
    • Monitor and analyze statistical and drive test data to improve system performance indicators such as dropped calls, blocked calls, origination failures, handoff features.
    • Apply propagation theory, cellular theory, RF Engineering tools and antenna theory to choose tower antenna placement.
    • Responsible for capacity planning, GSM frequency planning and frequency hopping by applying carrier/interference (C/I) ratio analysis.
    • Recommend site upgrade such as down tilling of antenna and re-orientation of radio additions
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer focus and demonstrated ability to work in geographically dispersed teams
    • Must have Microsoft Office applications skills
    • Change management: ITIL process and knowledge on Tools like HP-open view, CA etc.
    • Ability to trouble-shoot complex network related incidents Specifically Cisco and Telco related.


  • 6-8 years' relevant work experience
  • Must be available to work off hours or shifts as required for 24/7/365 support
