Database Administrator

We are currently seeking a Database Administrator for a client that is a state government office based in Hanover, MD.   

Responsibilities:

• Interacts with Applications Development project teams to apply data operations requirements to support the effective storage and retrieval of data
• Should work independently on one or more highly complex database environments
• Investigates monitors performance, contributes to back-up and recovery procedures, creates reports, and configures and installs database software
• Planning and organizational abilities are required while carrying out their duties when working on multiple projects simultaneously

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience with Database Administration, Database Backup and Recovery, Database Performance Tuning, Database monitoring (Data Management Console), DB2 Performance and Tuning, Linux Performance & Tuning and Windows Operating System
• Knowledge of handling DB2 databases on Windows required
• Advanced knowledge of administration, Performance tuning and backup and recovery options of both DB2LUW and Oracle
• The proposed candidate must have at least six (6) years of experience in DBMS systems analysis and programming
• The proposed candidate must have at least three (3) years of experience in using current versions of DBMS technologies, application design utilizing various database management systems, and experience with DBMS internals
• Knowledge on Windows OS scripting language is required. i.e., PowerShell scripting knowledge in windows is desired
• Knowledge on DB2 software installation, Database and Instance creation, Database Upgrade, DB2 Fix pack patching, backup/restore on Windows is needed
• Knowledge on DB2 client and DB2 Connect installations for Windows is required
• Expertise on DB2 HADR setup i.e., Implement DB2 high availability in a Windows environment
• 5+ years of experience in Oracle DB Administration and Development in Oracle 10g or higher
• Knowledge of ad-hoc queries, SQL, Procedures, PL/SQL
• Experience creating a high availability of the databases
• Experience performing Oracle installations, upgrades, and installing patches
• Monitoring, tuning and capacity planning experience
• Experience performing database recovery, backup, and restore
• Able to handle Production On-call Support 24/7
• Must be organized and a team player
• Excellent communication skills
• Bachelor's and/or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or the equivalent in work experience and education
