Looking for a Sr. Azure SQL Database Engineer /Administrator
You will have a major strategic impact on developing and optimizing our data flows from data ingestion and computation to analytics. Additionally, you will advise on best practices, efficient/scalable database designs to foster a team atmosphere.
Our ideal candidate will have hands-on technical experience with developing SQL Stored procedures and optimizing SQL server and migrating databases to Microsoft Azure. Assist our team with the transition from SQL Server VM to Azure native SQL and analytics using technologies like Azure Synapse/Snowflake.
They will be managing standalone or clustered SQL Server instances of 2017-2019, and they will be managing and securing data pipelines. Experience with Azure ETL/ELT/ADF data services, DW/Data Lake and advanced analytics knowledge is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Operational:
- Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving SQL database issues, and proactively monitor queries for excessive resource consumption
- Migrate SQL Server Databases on VMs to Microsoft Azure hosted DBs, Managed Instances and Azure SQL.
- Create Data Models for new and modernized legacy Databases, implement database design following best practices to maximize performance and reduce data redundancy
- Stress test and optimize the system for efficiency (Indexes, partitioning, cache, etc.)
- Create and deploy ETL packages to achieve various tasks using SSIS, ADF, Automated Backups, maintenance jobs, Bulk inserts data migration, data extraction, transformation, and loading from multiple sources.
Strategic:
- Mentoring and creating standards/methodology for database code for readability, reliability, and performance
- Transitioning VM-based SQL server to Azure services where applicable
- Propose technical solutions, new database application design, process flows
- Identify and understand business needs to effectively design, develop, test, and deploy database solutions
- Assist with building solution framework and building a modern data warehouse or data lake repository
Skills/Technologies Preferred:
- Expertise with DDL and DML statements, RDBMSs, data dictionaries, normal forms and performance tuning
- Strong in performance tuning, and optimization especially with complex queries, stored procedures and indexing strategies/ partitioning.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, Data Factory, Data Lake Storage, Snowflake/Synapse
- Hands on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
- Disaster Recovery knowledge with Always-On High Availability, SQL Log Shipping, DB mirroring, Replication
- Ability to write PowerShell or Batch scripts
- Using a code repository to store and/or deploy scripts, preferably GitHub
- Data visualization technologies such as PowerBI
Requirements:
- 10+ years’ experience in SQL Server development (Stored Procedures, SSIS, SSRS…)
- 5+ years’ experience in administering SQL Server (DBA or similar role)
- 2+ years’ experience in administering Azure SQL/MI (DBA or similar role)
- 1+ year experience with Synapse / Snowflake
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
- Self-directed and able to prioritize own workload with ability to learn quickly and ‘get things done’
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Entertainment industry experience helpful
