Job Details
Mainframe System Administrator (Contract)
Department: Innovation and Technology Department
Location: San Bernardino County, CA
Contract Duration: 1 to 5 years (renewed annually)
Schedule:
- Regular business hours
- Occasional after-hours and weekend work
- On-call rotation coverage
Key Responsibilities
- Install, implement, test, tune, and support IBM and 3rd-party mainframe software
- Provide technical support for internal customers and application developers
- Maintain and test disaster recovery procedures and perform system recovery as needed
- Perform storage management, capacity planning, system performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Manage and support mainframe network components (TCP/IP, VIPA, etc.)
- Collaborate with operations staff to ensure reliable batch and online system operations
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience as a z/OS system administrator (system programmer)
- Experience with core z/OS components: IODF, HCD, SMPE, z/OSMF, WLM
- Expertise in JCL, REXX, Unix System Services, and batch schedulers like ESP or Control-M
- Proficient in z/OS networking: TCP/IP, VIPA, VTAM, and RACF digital certificate administration
- Skilled in backup/recovery of datasets and disaster preparedness
- Education:
- Minimum of 30 semester (or 45 quarter) units of post-high-school coursework from an accredited institution in:
- Computer Information Systems
- Business/Public Administration
- Or a closely related field
