Job Description: 7136 - Senior Application & SQL Developer (.NET / C# / SQL Server) Must Reside in Sacramento to be considered

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Application & SQL Developer to support SMUD s data and application development initiatives. This role involves designing, developing, and modifying applications, databases, ETL processes, and reporting solutions while collaborating with senior subject matter experts and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in C#, SQL Server, and API development along with excellent communication skills and the ability to work in hybrid onsite/remote environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and modify software applications and relational/multidimensional database structures.
  • Build and optimize data flows and interfaces within the enterprise data warehouse.
  • Develop, test, and debug ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from multiple sources.
  • Adapt and enhance data warehouse structures to support evolving business needs.
  • Apply best practices and departmental coding standards to application and database development.
  • Unit test and debug code prior to release.
  • Participate in requirements gathering, technical design, documentation, testing, and planning.
  • Consult with stakeholders to clarify needs, propose alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical specifications, diagrams, and documentation for both new and modified functionality.
  • Assist functional teams in developing test scenarios, plans, and scripts.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships within diverse teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience with Visual Studio and C#.
  • 7+ years of SQL Server/RDBMS experience, including strong proficiency in SQL query development and optimization.
  • Strong proficiency in writing and debugging C# code (must be demonstrated in resume).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and JSON.
  • 1+ year of experience in the Electric Utility industry.

Technical Requirements

  • Microsoft SQL knowledge.
  • Proficiency in C# development.
  • Experience with SQL Server query optimization.
  • Experience with .NET Framework and .NET Core.
  • WinForms or Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF).
  • RESTful APIs, Web Services, JSON, and XML.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with MongoDB, Postgres, Cassandra.
  • Familiarity with MVC, Blazor, HTML, and Design Patterns.
  • Knowledge of Power BI for reporting and visualization.
  • Programming/scripting with Python.
  • XSLT and Linq.
  • Source control experience (e.g., SVN).
  • Exposure to GIS (GTECH, ESRI), AMI (Itron), and Multispeak.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server spatial functions.
  • Experience with SOAP Web Services, PI, and Windows API.

Work Environment

  • Location: Sacramento, CA Schedule: Monday Friday, 7:00 AM 5:00 PM PST.
