Blu Omega is hiring for the Senior COBOL Developer will build software utilizing COBOL, CICS, VSAM and JCL, develop programs from requirements, maintain existing application and provide subject matter expertise as needed. The Sr. COBOL will write functional code with a sharp eye for process improvements and should be a team player and excellent communicator.
Our Sr. COBOL Developers analyze customer needs and develop overall concept and design objectives, and must be able to apply modern methodologies, techniques, and technologies to realize the most efficiencies possible to help bridge the gap between an older mainframe system and server side databases, Salesforce and MuleSoft . The Sr. COBOL Developer must be able to analyze existing customer software to identify faults in the software from reported issues at a functional level. The goal is to work with internal teams to design, develop, modernize, and maintain the legacy system. Required Education: Bachelor s Degree or higher in a business or technical discipline Required Years of Experience: 5 years, or 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education
General Responsibilities:
Participate in requirements analysis, UAT, and Sprints
Collaborate with internal teams to produce software design and architecture
Write clean, scalable code using JCL and COBOL programming languages
Test and deploy applications and systems
Revise, update, refactor and debug code
Improve existing software
Develop documentation throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC)
Serve as an expert on applications and provide technical support
Specific Responsibilities:
Maintenance of VSAM files and associated alternate key indexes.
Learn and support current CARS batch job streams.
Trouble-shoot file transfer issues with external partners, involving SFTP, FTPS, and Connect-Direct.
Trouble-shoot ETL load issues for data from external partners. Help resolve data issues including incomplete files, missing files, and duplicate files.
Assist in refactoring of nightly ETL processes with external partners to be more robust, to capture errors and cleanly abend when errors encountered, and to provide for faster, more accurate, and more automated ETL recovery after failure.
Assist in refactoring of nightly processes into discrete transactions in CICS, to support real-time updates for Mainframe Modernization and, eventually eMPWR Kafka events passed on by Mule Anypoint platform through real-time APIs.
Assist in refactoring of nightly and other batch processes to isolate business and technical rules for each individual transaction type.
Work closely with existing mainframe developers and operators to maintain CARS and CAROLS production systems.
Work with CICS Transaction Gateway and/or z/OS Connect and/or other real-time APIs used to access, read, and update VSAM data.
Work closely with existing mainframe developers and operators to modify and enhance CARS and CAROLS systems as part of DMC's modernization efforts.
Analysis of COBOL and JCL to extract and document business rules.
Refactoring of existing code to apply new or altered business rules.
Minimum Qualifications:
VA or other Federal Government experience preferred.
Proven work experience as a Mainframe Senior COBOL Developer
Knowledge of software development and user interface web applications
Familiarity with Agile frameworks and regression testing is a plus
Familiarity with APIs (REST, RPC)
Knowledge of CTG and z/OS Connect preferred
Excellent analytical and organization skills
An ability to understand front-end users requirements and a problem-solving attitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills Preferred Qualifications:
CMMI Maturity Level 3, ISO 9001:2015 or 9001:2001, and ITIL experience a plus
