POSITION SUMMARY

The Report Developer role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining business-focused interactive reports and dashboards using PowerBI and other reporting tools. This role involves working closely with business stakeholders to understand their data analysis needs and translating these into effective reports and visualizations. The developer will use their skills in data modeling, SQL, DAX, and Power Query to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources. They will also optimize reports for performance and ensure data accuracy. This role leverages Microsoft Fabric and PowerBI, as well as other technologies within Microsoft Azure technology stack.

OBJECTIVES

• Collaborate with other team members on scoping solutions and project decision points.
• Design and implement data products (reports, visualizations, pipelines) that add value to the business.
• Interact with developers, business teams, and other stakeholders to determine requirements.
• Further the buildout of our internal data platform, ultimately providing better data-analysis platforms to internal teams.
• Forecast and report transformed data to provide actionable insights.
• Understand business objectives and requirements, and translate business logic into technical implementation.
• Create and manage data models to support efficient ad-hoc analysis and reporting by end users

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

• Proficiency in creating interactive reports, dashboards, and visualizations using PowerBI and other report development tools.
• Ability to design and implement scalable data models, including PowerBI semantic models.
• Understanding of logical and physical data modeling, including fact / dimension modeling, star / snowflake schema, and Kimball methodologies.
• Proficiency in Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) for complex calculations, building report measures and calculated columns.
• Possess strong proficiency in SQL to write, analyze, and debug queries.
• Understanding of data pipelines, including using Dataflow Gen 2 for data ingestion, as well as proficiency in ETL/ELT processes.
• Experience with Power Query for data transformations, including the ability to preprocess and clean data for report presentation.
• Strong skills in data visualization and ability to choose the right visuals for different types of data.
• Understanding of datastore and data mart design, particularly in a lakehouse architecture.
• Expertise in PowerBI development tools, including PowerBI desktop, DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, ALM toolkit.
• Strong technical writing skills to document processes and workflows.
• Understanding of data security principles and best practices, such as RBAC, RLS, OLS, etc.
• Basic understanding of Medallion architecture concepts of loading data into data lakehouse and data warehouse.
• Monitor and optimize report performance, ensuring scalability and efficiency in handling large datasets.
• Familiarity with cloud services (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform), specifically Microsoft Fabric.
• Knowledge of object oriented programming languages (e.g. Python, C#, Java) is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in STEM field
