Senior Certification Advisor (Main Engine, Fuel System, APU)
Summary
Lead and advise major applicant (ATC) certification efforts for Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) development and production programs responsible for Main Engines, Fuel Systems, and APUs safety and compliance. Drive certification strategy, ensure compliance with FAA, EASA and other applicable regulatory authorities, and coordinate across program management, engineering SMEs, suppliers and internal stakeholders to deliver complete, high quality certification artifacts on schedule and within scope.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute certification plans and strategies for complex propulsion and fuel-related changes and projects across development and production programs.
Collaborate with program management to prioritize workload, define scope of work, and produce realistic certification schedules and milestones.
Lead cross-functional certification teams and represent the applicant in interactions with regulatory authorities (FAA, EASA, etc.), providing technical rationale, status updates, and negotiation support.
Review, approve, and ensure completeness and quality of engineering artifacts (requirements, compliance matrices, test plans, verification reports, safety assessments, certification plans, etc.).
Ensure traceability between requirements, design, verification, and certification deliverables; verify that verification/validation activities adequately demonstrate compliance.
Coordinate with system subject matter experts, avionics/airframe/propulsion teams, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and operations to ensure technical accuracy and timely closure of certification issues.
Identify certification risks and open items early; propose and drive mitigation strategies to closure.
Support preparation for and participate in regulatory audits, conformity reviews, and certification milestones.
Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced engineers on certification processes, regulatory expectations, and engineering artifacts.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, or related engineering discipline.
20+ years of relevant experience in aircraft certification and/or propulsion, fuel systems, or APU engineering on commercial transport programs.
Demonstrated experience interfacing with FAA and EASA certification authorities and working on complex compliance efforts.
Proven track record of developing and executing certification plans and closing certification findings.
Strong knowledge of aircraft systems integration, verification methods (analysis, test, inspection), requirements traceability, and safety assessment processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical justification to regulators and senior leadership.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a program environment.
