The ideal candidate will act as a Design Manager across the sub-regions for pursuits and projects using alternative delivery methods such as Progressive Design-Build, Design-Build, Construction Manager/General Contractor ("CM"), or methods with early contractor involvement. They will have overall responsibility for these projects and coordination of all technical issues among various disciplines, including Highway, Bridge, Environmental, Traffic, and Public Involvement, as well as client management and project controls, including invoicing, schedule, and budget. The right candidate may also be asked to manage a portfolio of projects and act as the Client Account Manager (CAM) with responsibility to grow AECOM's market share for that client.

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate the technical content of pursuits and projects across various disciplines and manage subconsultants.

  • Interface with clients using various forms of communication to organize and coordinate the design deliverables.

  • Ensure the overall project design is completed in accordance with the contract documents.

  • Manage and lead all aspects of the project, including technical, financial, schedule, and client satisfaction. Report to senior management on the project status on a regular basis.

  • Establish scope, work plan and work schedule and ensure this is communicated to the project staff and department managers.

  • Provide technical support during the construction phase.

  • Comply with company's safety awareness program and policies.

  • Manage groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists towards development of design documents and contract deliverables with minimal guidance or supervision.

  • Assure conformance with contractual obligations by ensuring that design documents are reviewed and approved prior to release to the client.

  • Train, mentor and develop staff and support career growth opportunities for staff.

  • Manage marketing coordination and proposal preparation. Lead proposal interview teams.

  • Follow best practices to maximize profit while minimizing risk.

  • Ensure that QA/QC procedures are being implemented and ensure the technical quality of deliverables. Coordinate responses to the client's comments.

  • Anticipate potential budget and schedule impacts and initiate plans for alternative actions.

  • Incorporate innovation in design and delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 12 years of relevant design experience within the transportation construction field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license and be willing to obtain reciprocity in the jurisdiction of the projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing alternative delivery methods or projects with early contractor involvement.

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience as engineer of record or lead designer.

  • Twenty (20) years of related design experience.
