Business Intelligence Specialist
The Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist is responsible for transforming data into meaningful insights that support business decision-making. This role involves designing data models, developing dashboards and reports, performing data analysis, and ensuring data accuracy and availability across the organization. The BI Specialist works closely with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. BI Development & Reporting
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.
- Develop automated reporting solutions to streamline business processes.
- Create interactive visualizations that effectively communicate trends and insights.
2. Data Management & Modeling
- Collect, clean, and validate data from multiple internal and external sources.
- Create and optimize data models for reporting and analytics.
- Work with databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) to extract and manipulate large datasets.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
3. Analytics & Insights
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to define KPIs and performance metrics.
- Translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations.
- Support strategic planning and forecasting efforts through data-driven insights.
4. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with product, finance, operations, marketing, and leadership teams to understand business needs.
- Provide training and support for BI tools and dashboards.
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
5. Continuous Improvement
- Stay updated with BI technologies, data analytics trends, and industry best practices.
- Optimize existing BI processes for performance and scalability.
- Propose enhancements to data infrastructure and reporting workflows.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or related field.
- 2-5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or related roles.
- Proficiency in BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, Looker, etc.).
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts (ETL/ELT, dimensional modeling).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical audiences.
- Experience with Excel and data visualization best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform).
- Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis.
- Knowledge of DAX, MDX, or other modeling languages.
- Background in statistical analysis or predictive modeling.
- Experience in agile environments or project management.
