Drupal Developer

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid/Onsite as required)
Duration: 6 Months

Overview

A highly skilled Drupal Developer is needed to support a major digital platform modernization effort. The consultant will work closely with technical and design teams to enhance system architecture, improve editorial workflows, and maintain a secure, scalable, and extensible Drupal environment. This role involves custom development, API integrations, content migration, and ensuring adherence to industry standards including accessibility, performance, and best practices.

The consultant will also support long-term sustainability efforts by delivering documentation, training materials, and improved configuration and deployment workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather and define functional and non-functional requirements using industry-standard methodologies

  • Prepare, review, and update specifications, business processes, and technical recommendations

  • Collaborate with analysts, business units, and SMEs to validate requirements and support implementation

  • Conduct interviews, workshops, surveys, and documentation reviews to elicit requirements

  • Identify deficiencies in existing systems and recommend improvements

  • Participate in meetings with technical and business teams to ensure clarity and alignment

  • Support configuration management, version control, deployments, and QA/validation

  • Improve system architecture, editorial workflows, security posture, and platform scalability

  • Develop documentation and training resources to support internal teams

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Candidates without all mandatory requirements will not be considered.

  • 8+ years specifying, analyzing, and documenting requirements for mission-critical applications in web/client-server environments

  • 5+ years full-stack PHP development with portfolio

  • 5+ years of Drupal development with portfolio

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor s degree in a technology-related field

  • Experience contributing Drupal modules

  • Experience leading mid-to-large Drupal site migrations

  • Python development experience

  • Experience with geo-mapping tools or game engine concepts

  • Strong presentation and leadership capabilities

  • Knowledge of various development tools, methodologies, and practices

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong analytical, facilitation, and decision-making skills

  • Proficiency in Waterfall, RUP, and Agile SDLC methodologies

  • Ability to accurately estimate project work and meet delivery commitments

Technical Areas of Expertise (Ideal Candidate)

  • Drupal 9/10 custom module development, theming, API integrations

  • Advanced workflows: moderation, audit logs, revisioning

  • Search enhancements (Solr, ElasticSearch, Drupal Search API)

  • Media ingestion (Word/PDF), media management, content transformation

  • Drupal Views, Paragraphs, Entities, Taxonomies, and configuration tools

  • Export utilities (PDF, Word, CSV), reporting, backend admin utilities

  • Front-end enhancements including tables, interactive components, responsive design

  • Migration planning, auditing, execution, and remediation
