The DB Sales Officer is a key member of the design build leadership team overseeing the sales functions within the design build organization. This includes developing and implementing the sophisticated planning and sales strategies, establishing sales goals, and leading the sales team to achieve those targets.

The purpose of this role is to provide an increased focus on developing, implementing, and evaluating a strategic plan, and partnering with design build, division, regional, and corporate leadership. The expectation is to significantly increase HNTB's position in the identified market and to understand, pursue, and win the most significant opportunities with our owners and contractors.

The DB Sales Officer reports directly to the Design Build President. This position also partners with corporate, regional, and division leadership to increase focus on deepening relationships with national and regional contractors, ensuring we have relationships at the highest levels.

What You'll Do:
  • Engages with Chief Corporate Sales Officer to coordinate and align design build objectives with overall firm vision and strategic plan.
  • Directly engages with Regional Sales Officers, Division Sales Officers, and DB Principals to guide and support HNTB's strategic planning process and implementation of strategic plans.
  • Partners with the DB President, DB Finance, and division leaders in development of annual sales goals and budgets, and to analyze sales performance.
  • Provides overall leadership/accountability for the design build sales and marketing team. This includes DB Regional Sales Officers (RSO), Marketing Director (DMD), and Strategic Pursuit Directors (SPD). Ensures the sales organization remains focused on significant sales related issues and that each regional DB team partners and collaborates with its division sales organizations smoothly.
  • Leads, champions, owns, teaches and is responsible for the Sophisticated Planning Approach (SPA) and Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) processes as they apply to the design build market, with similar responsibility for the DB Approach Supplement. Provides oversight and evaluation of SPA and SSA effectiveness and works with DB Leadership, DB RSOs, DMD and SPDs to support effective implementation of these processes.
  • Guides and supports the effective implementation of HNTB's Super Client program for priority growth clients (owners and contractors), serving as a key resource in building client relationships both Above the Line (ATL) and Below the Line (BTL), consistent with client strategic plans, client action plans and pursuit win plans.
  • Defines and executes growth strategies that increase HNTB's market share in design build, achieve a dominant position with transportation clients (e.g., transportation, bridge, rail/transit, tunnel, aviation service lines) and improve position with architecture clients.
  • Leads and participates in business development activities and client-focused initiatives to further our contractor relationships and to strengthen HNTB brand in the design build space.
  • Serves as lead strategist of DB super-mega and other major pursuits. Brings firm-wide resources and external resources to project pursuits.
  • Responsible for the Contractor Service Plans and PR activities with our owners and contractors.
  • Partners with Chief Engineer and DB President to perform contractor audits that identify owner issues/actions and result in better external communications with key contractors. Reports to DB President and Division President on items needing improvement based on owner input. Holds follow-up meetings with owners and contractors to discuss actions taken and explore other opportunities to expand and grow our business.
  • Advises on the design build strategic planning process and works with each division on the design build element of their strategic plans. This includes attending key division strategic planning meetings with the DB RSO.
  • Ensures debriefs and After Action Reviews (AAR) are completed on all design build pursuits, and that teams follow-up and act on lessons learned.
  • Collaborates with the DMD on a communication and branding strategy, including strategic objectives related to an overall conference strategy for design build.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
