Overview
Quality Assurance Engineers (QAEs) specialize in improving processes and systems to ensure quality and efficiency within Electric Boat. As Electric Boat continues to execute on our Columbia and Virginia programs, members of this team will be key contributors to ensure their success. QAEs routinely work cross functionally with internal and external customers to ensure a quality product. This position will report to a Quality Assurance Engineering Supervisor in Groton.
Responsibilities of the QA Engineer include leading investigations of quality deficiencies and assisting functional areas in resolution of problems that may occur at any Electric Boat Site, NNS or a Supplier. Emergent issues may originate from any discipline, trade or supplier and will require a candidate to become familiar with new subjects and topics in an expedited manner.
Efforts will include assessing product and process performance to identify quality defects, be knowledgeable about Quality Specifications and ensure products and processes comply with requirements, become proficient in causal analysis tools, implement and maintain systems that ensure adherence to quality standards, and work with various teams to achieve continuous improvement and prevent quality issues from recurring.

Additional responsibilities may include:
- Pressure Hull Frame Dimension and Hull Fairness Measurement Evaluations
- Develop and monitor quality metrics to improve 1st time quality at Electric Boat
- Participate in significant issue problem resolution teams including causal analysis and implementation of preventive actions where required
- Monitor, assign, status, and provide resolution support for all Customer Corrective Action Requests
- QIM (Quality Item Matrix) administration and act as a liaison to teaming partner NNS for resolution of construction issues between shipyards, including causal analysis and preventive actions where required
- Quality commitment administration - load and manage commitments as required to support resolution of quality issues
- Participate in Special Emphasis Program (SUBSAFE/DSS-SOC/FBW SCS) working groups within Electric Boat and jointly with NNS
- Support all quality audits (e.g., certification audits, NDT audits, NAVSEA 08 audits, etc.)
- Directly supporting ship certification & module shipouts
- Lead improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Engineering
- 0-5 years in Waterfront, Quality or Design Engineering experience
- Must be able to read and interpret company policies and procedures
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office Suite and Engineering Related Software
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical, Systems or Electrical Engineering
- Project Management or "Systems" Engineering experience
- Previous certification or training in continuous improvement, root cause analysis and technical writing
- Knowledge of NDT and Welding processes
- Understanding of Quality Management Systems
- Experience on cross-functional teams, especially those focused on problem resolution
