Entry Level Highway Engineer

Description
Churchill Consulting Engineers is seeking an entry-level highway design engineer to join our team! Churchill is a full-service engineering firm that provides public and private sector clients with planning, design, surveying, permitting, and construction management services for a broad range of civil and environmental projects. As a Highway Engineer, you will assist senior engineers with the development of engineering designs for a variety of transportation infrastructure projects overseen by regional agencies such as the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful projects and grow within a well-established consulting firm. Candidate should be organized, eager to learn, and able to work both independently and within a team.
Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of a professional engineer, design various project elements including alignments, profiles, roadway typical sections, roadside safety devices, and other related geometric elements.
Prepare 3D design models in both Civil 3D and Microstation Inroads software.
Develop construction staging sequence and traffic control plans.
Design mainline highway striping and signing layouts and prepare contract plans.
Draft contract plans and details for various project phases including preliminary design and final design.
Perform engineering design calculations
Prepare quantity calculations and supplemental specifications
Perform site visits to support design efforts
Attend meetings with clients and regulatory agencies and prepare meeting minutes
Work within a team
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
0-5 years of related experience
Strong communication and technical writing skills
Ability to work within a team and independently
Strong time management and organizational skills
Excellent computer skills are required. Must be efficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
Passed FE and/or PE Exam
Familiarity with AASHTO Green Book, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, and MUTCD
Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation
Experience in roadway design
Prior experience with NJDOT and NJTA standards
