Job Details

Title: Telecommunications Support Specialist 2
Location: Vancouver, WA (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-month Contract (with possible extensions up to 5 years)
Pay Range: $36.96 - $40.00 per hour

The role of the Telecommunications Specialist is to design or configure voice, video and data communications systems. The Telecommunications Specialist may analyze and process requests for telecommunications, video services and equipment orders as well as assist clients with telecommunications requests. The Telecommunications Specialist may install set-up, rearrange or remove switching distribution, routing, and dialing equipment used in central offices. Service or repair telephone, cable television, internet, and other communications equipment. May install communications equipment or communications wiring in buildings.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with telecommunications vendors to obtain pricing and technical specifications for available hardware, software, or services.
  • Keep abreast of changes in industry practices and emerging telecommunications technology.
  • Implement or perform preventive maintenance, backup or recovery procedures.
  • Consult with users, administrators, and engineers to identify business and technical requirements for proposed system modifications or technology purchases.
  • Assess existing facilities' needs for new or modified telecommunications systems.
  • Order or maintain inventory of telecommunications equipment for customer equipment, facilities, access networks, or backbone networks.
  • Install or coordinate installation of new or modified hardware, software, or programming modules of telecommunications systems.
  • Develop, maintain, or implement management approved telecommunications disaster recovery plans to assist management in ensuring business continuity.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance, such as network traffic, security and capacity.
  • Estimate costs for system or component implementation and operation.
  • Test repaired, newly installed or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.
  • Inspect equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper functioning.
  • Repair or replace faulty equipment such as defective and damaged telephones, wires, switching system components, and associated equipment.
  • Remove and remake connections to change circuit layouts, following work orders or diagrams.
  • Demonstrate equipment to customers and explain how it is to be used and respond to any inquiries or complaints.
  • Adjust or modify equipment to enhance equipment performance to respond to customer requests.
  • Perform basic telecom maintenance such as:
  • Cleaning, changing, relabeling telephone sets.
  • Programming telecom switches, installing wiring, and updating documentation with telephone and video installations.
  • Perform cost benefit analysis for proposed projects.
  • Schedule, change and troubleshoot video and teleconference bridges and conferences.
  • Assist or complete voice and video moves, adds and changes.
  • Conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
  • Identify causes of operating errors and provide solutions.
  • Repair equipment or systems using the required tools.
  • Control operations of equipment or systems.
Position Requirements:
Education & Corresponding Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a related telecommunications field is preferred.
    • 5 years of experience is required with an applicable Bachelor's Degree.
    • 7 years of experience is required with an applicable Associate's Degree.
    • 9 years of experience is required without a degree, or applicable degree.
  • Experience must include direct work experience providing telecommunications support in an Enterprise IT environment.
Required Technical Skills & Experience
  • Experience working for telephone companies or businesses with large telephone systems, preferably Cisco VoIP systems.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications wiring practices and standards.
  • Cisco Call Manager 12.x or higher and Unity experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Basic Telecom / Computer Operations Certifications
  • Cisco UC Certifications
  • Informacast experience.
  • Microsoft Server knowledge/skill.
