Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

As the Senior Director, Head of Research Systems Engineering, you will be responsible for:

Technology Roadmap Development:
  • Strategically own, define, and progress the technology roadmap to enhance laboratory computing capabilities for pharmaceutical R&D operations, including embedding of automation, artificial intelligence and advanced data management into laboratory workflows
  • Ensure alignment with overall business objectives and innovation goals of the organization.

Leadership and Team Management:
  • Lead a diverse global team of engineers and technologists, providing guidance and support in developing cutting-edge research systems.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence within the team.

Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, IT, and operations, to gather requirements and identify opportunities for technology integration.
  • Offer strategic insight into how technology should best be deployed across multiple therapeutic modalities including Small Molecules, Protein therapeutics, Cell and Gene Therapy and other advanced modalities
  • Present findings, insights, and recommendations to senior leadership and other stakeholders.

Product Management:
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of investments in research systems technology products, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Utilize agile methodologies to enhance project responsiveness and effectiveness.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in laboratory computing and analytical tools, proposing initiatives to leverage these advancements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and enhance R&D operational efficiency.

Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure all systems and processes comply with industry regulations and quality standards specifically GXP processes.
  • Identify potential risks and develop risk mitigation strategies to safeguard R&D operations.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field preferred
  • Experience: 10+ years in technology leadership roles, with extensive experience in research systems engineering within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Technical Skills: Proven expertise in laboratory computing systems, data analytics, and integration of laboratory workflows.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership capabilities with a track record of managing diverse teams and driving organizational change.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with experience presenting to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to envision long-term opportunities and develop actionable strategies to achieve them.
