Value of innovation starts here! We are hiring a Communications Systems Engineering - Design Section Manager to support within the Communication Systems Engineering Department (CSED) and be that essential team member partnering in solving the most challenging problems for space systems.

The selected individual will provide technical direction to your team to conduct industry edge research and performance analysis to design and evaluate communication systems, signals, and signal processing algorithms. Your leadership is essential and will help shape the future of communication in the space systems and the organization's capabilities.

This role can be in a hybrid work model which offers partially remote with some onsite work required in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Leading a team of communication system engineers to perform industry-edge research and design performance analysis for resilient communication satellite systems, signals, and signal processing algorithms
  • You will focus your team to perform research for design ideation and performance analysis to support modeling simulation, laboratory, and systems engineering activities for communication systems
  • Participating in your team's day-to-day research and design analysis activities and their task accomplishments
  • Coordinating with customers representing US Space Force and Intelligence Community programs to solve their challenging engineering problems
  • Hiring, developing, and maintaining a team of engineers
  • Supporting personnel actions, career growth, performance improvement, and recognition
  • Identifying opportunities for additional, expanded, and new business
  • Implementing a work environment of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
  • Providing insight into the organization's goals, with a focus on coordinating their implementation with subordinates, peers, and management

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • This position requires the candidate to have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government issued TS/SCI security clearance. They will be put in for a security clearance after start date
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Communication Systems and Signals
  • Six or more years of hands-on engineering experience in designing communication systems, signals, and digital signal processing algorithms or related discipline
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work effectively with customers, peers, managers, and industry partners
  • Demonstrated project management experience from project ideation, task planning, execution, and delivery of quality products
  • Previous experience with proposal or business development
  • Demonstrated effective team building, mentorship, and interpersonal skills toward engineers
  • Hands-on analysis experience designing communication systems, signals, and signal processing algorithms
  • Experience programming in MATLAB, C/C++, or Python
  • Ability to support occasional travel

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform design research and transition successfully to consumers
  • Leading changes to organizational capabilities like software or hardware tools for engineering development, processes, products
  • Strong technical experience, with a focus on academic rigor, to perform research and design performance analysis of physical layer communication systems, signals, digital signal processing algorithms or related discipline
  • Demonstrated patent holder or authored publications such as peer-reviewed journals, papers, book, book-chapters
  • Systems engineering experience i.e., model-based system engineering (MBSE), requirements analysis, development, decomposition, and verification
  • Project lead, project engineering, or management experience
  • Experience with GPS/GNSS signals and systems, wireless standards like 5G, or commercial technology
  • Experience with government or commercial space programs
  • Possess an active TS security clearance
