Job Title: GIS Architect
Location: Atlanta, GA
Duration: 12 months
Client: Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)

Note: Candidate must provide two references and a valid driver's license.

Role Summary:

The GIS Architect will be responsible for designing and developing enterprise-level Geographic Information System (GIS) architectural frameworks that align with GDOT s strategic objectives. This role provides technical leadership, guidance, and oversight for the planning, design, integration, and implementation of scalable GIS solutions. The GIS Architect will collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to ensure optimal system performance, reliability, and scalability across GDOT s GIS ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain enterprise GIS architecture strategies, frameworks, and standards in alignment with GDOT s objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for GIS solution design and system integration.
  • Evaluate current GIS infrastructure and recommend improvements or modernization strategies.
  • Design scalable, secure, and efficient GIS solutions leveraging Esri technologies and related tools.
  • Support data integration between GIS systems and other enterprise platforms.
  • Conduct system evaluations, proofs of concept, and architectural assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, data analysts, and infrastructure teams to ensure solution alignment.
  • Establish and enforce GIS best practices, performance tuning, and security standards.
    Stay current with emerging GIS technologies and recommend adoption strategies where beneficial.
 
Experience:
 
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in GIS solution design and development.
  • Proven expertise in Esri GIS architecture, including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Strong background in designing scalable and high-performance GIS solutions.
  • Experience with system integrations, data modeling, and cloud-based GIS deployments (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Certifications: Relevant GIS certifications such as Esri Certified Professional, Esri Enterprise System Design Associate/Professional, or equivalent.

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Experience with GDOT systems or state government GIS environments.
  • Understanding of Agile or DevOps methodologies in GIS solution delivery.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Soft Skills:
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration abilities.
  • Strong presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical GIS solutions.
