The Opportunity:

We are currently searching for a Junior-Level FPGA Software Engineer to join our team. This position will be responsible the development and simulation of IP blocks using VHDL or Verilog to create image signal processing and other various HDL processing blocks. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a passion for being part of a team developing medical technologies that improve people’s lives.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform code reviews for ensuring code inter-compatibility, write simulations to verify components and inter-compatibility, and write appropriate documentation for review
  • Review and critique HDL, software, and PCBA designs and aid in creating the required documentation associated with medical devices
  • Work on a team with other FPGA and embedded software engineers as well as interface directly with clients to understand client needs and expectations
  • Work with other engineers to train and ensure project success

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar discipline; Master’s preferred
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in FPGA/CPLD/programmable logic design
  • Experience creating and integrating IP blocks using Intel FPGAs
  • Experience debugging using Timing Analyzer, System Console, and SignalTap
  • Experience with VHDL/Verilog design
  • Experience implementing DSP algorithms using FPGAs
  • Industry experience in design, development and testing of embedded systems - particularly PIC, MSP430, and ARM processors
  • Low-power microcontroller support hardware design
  • Analog design: filters, sensor interface, motor controllers, and optical interfaces
  • Hands on lab experience, including soldering and simple mechanical fabrication
  • Knowledge of and ability to work in a safety-related quality process
  • Experience with Altera (Intel) Quartus tools and Nios II processor configuration preferred
  • Experience creating and reviewing PCB schematics and layout with high-speed design principles, BGA breakout, and miniature PCB design principles
  • Experience with buses such as LVDS, DisplayPort, or HDMI preferred
  • Experience with MCUs such as the ARM Cortex M series preferred
  • Experience with ISO, FDA, etc. would be a plus
  • Embedded single board computer integration using a Linux OS is a plus

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Digital electronics debugging skills (oscilloscope, logic analyzer)
  • Intel Quartus Prime
  • Intel Quartus Timing Analyzer
  • ModelSim HDL Simulator
  • Image signal processing
  • SystemVerilog with UVM or OVM
  • C, C-sharp, C++, Python, Bash
  • PCBA schematic/layout
  • Linux, V4L2
  • GPU/nVidia
  • Strong working understanding of image signal processing (ISP) pipelines and typical ISP blocks
  • Working knowledge of embedded software and be able to write software drivers and tests in C with familiarity with Linux with object-oriented and hierarchical design principles
  • Working understanding of the following interfaces: PCIe, DDR, SDI, DVI, DisplayPort, MIPI, OpenLDI, GMSL, and FPD-Link
  • Good understand the inner workings and corrections of CMOS image sensors
  • Ability to write system requirements, design documentation, and test reports
  • Knowledge of digital video fundamentals preferred
  • Self-driven, personable, and be able to clearly articulate anticipated timelines, expectations, and changes appropriately Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent analytical skills
