The Software Development Engineer III designs and develops embedded software for automotive electronic modules and components while facilitating intra-company coordination of new product designs and serving as a customer liaison.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Creates new software product designs based on customer requests and internal development.
  • Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop designs for products.
  • Ensures on-time delivery of product development milestones.
  • Maintains customer contact (as required) throughout the length of the program (on topics such as program timing and technical development).
  • Prepares design documents as per process guidelines.
  • Implements new designs into production following the entire development process.
  • Develops product development timing plans per the development schedules.
  • Conducts and participates in detailed peer reviews for design, requirements, and codes.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine whether or not the design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Assists the quality department in the analysis of warranty and other customer returns.
  • Implements code as directed by the Software Development Group Leader.


Experience: 5+ years


Education: Bachelor's Degree (SW Engineering, EE, CS, IT)



  • Creation and execution of test plans in a laboratory environment
  • Lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, function generators)
  • Creation of software requirements and design documents
  • Assembler, compilers, and debuggers
  • Embedded programming in "C" programming language
  • Embedded programming in 8-bit/16-bit microcontroller assembly languages
  • Software development processes that comply with SEI CMMI Level 3
  • Configuration Management Systems (CVS, PVCS, or similar)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project)
