Job Description

Incumbent will participate in a team setting working on projects involving the implementation and maintenance of the State of South Dakota's Microsoft Windows servers in the areas of storage management, imaging, virtualization, and others. This position will assist clients with problem source identification and resolution; plan, install and maintain Windows system software and applications to ensure performance, integrity, and security; and provide problem diagnostic and resolution assistance for team members, external staff and groups, or third-party providers. 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

A degree in computer science, networking, or a related field and/or several years of applicable technology experience is preferred. Technology engineering level assignment will be determined by the education and experience of the incumbent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • support of Microsoft Windows PCs and/or servers in an enterprise environment;
  • direct support of clients, either in person or on the phone in problem resolution situations;
  • Microsoft Windows Server Operating System support;
  • concepts of centralized services offerings in an enterprise computing environment;
  • Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure;
  • private and public cloud infrastructure and design;
  • group policy as it applies to a centralized enterprise computing environment;
  • Microsoft Active Directory to manage systems in a centralized computing environment;
  • Enterprise disk management; storage area network systems;
  • Enterprise backup products and scheduling;
  • server hardware;
  • HP System Management and Monitoring Tools;
  • understanding in supporting a mission-critical environment of Microsoft Windows Servers, using.NET Platform, Internet Information Services (IIS), Citrix and Load Balancing;
  • understanding of common Windows and networking concepts and protocols: DNS, HTTP, FTP, SFTP, Active Directory, and SSL/TLS;
  • Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware hypervisors;
  • clustering or high availability technologies;
  • Microsoft Powershell scripting;
  • Microsoft Exchange, SQL, or Sharepoint environments;
  • centralized management of video recording systems;
  • security best-practices for data center infrastructure components;
  • basic networking concepts and components; Ethernet,TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls;
  • basic storage networking concepts ISCSI, Fiberchannel, SAS.

Abilities Desired: 

  • communicate with technical and non-technical clients and translate their needs, ideas, or suggestions into logical solutions to business problems;
  • track multiple areas of responsibility with strong organizational skills;
  • be capable of accomplishing assigned technical tasks with minimal supervision;
  • help develop and manage key performance metrics for various technical teams;
  • analyze and resolve information system errors;
  • maintain current documentation of installed systems;
  • work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
  • work effectively as both a team member and alone with minimal supervision;
  • work on complex projects with team members, as well as other BIT staff and/or vendors.
