JOB SUMMARY

The Information Security Awareness Analyst is responsible for leading a diverse range of security awareness training opportunities across all aspects of the University of Connecticut. Working with a wide range of clients who have minimal to a broad range of technical skills, the Security Awareness Analyst will lead the charge in communicating about the University Information Security Office and information security risks targeting faculty, researchers, students, and staff. The Analyst works with a team of skilled technicians to address information security within a complex environment and develops solutions that fit into that environment. 

As skills/time allow, the Security Awareness Analyst may participate in a variety of other activities including incident response; ticket resolution; and processes and procedures to assist with the continuous improvement of monitoring, detection, and mitigation capabilities of the Information Security Program. The Analyst plans, organizes, and establishes priorities related to an assignment; works independently with minimal outside support; and handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote awareness of security issues among management and ensure sound security principles are reflected in the organization’s vision and goals.
  • Conduct interactive training exercises to create an effective learning environment.
  • Develop new or identify existing awareness and training materials that are appropriate for intended audiences.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of existing training programs.
  • Support the design and execution of exercise scenarios.
  • Write instructional materials (e.g. standard operating procedures, playbooks, presentations) to provide detailed guidance to the relevant portion of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop or assist in the development of computer-based training modules or classes.
  • Develop or assist in the development of learning objectives and goals.
  • Create interactive learning exercises to create an effective learning environment.
  • Deliver training courses tailored to the audience and physical/virtual environments.
  • Conduct periodic reviews/revisions of course content for accuracy, completeness, and currency.
  • Develop or assist with the development of other training materials and other communications to increase employee understanding in alignment with information security (privacy, governance, risk, etc.).
  • Support information updates on the Information Security website especially as it relates to security awareness and current phishing topics.
  • Assist with triage of service requests from customers and internal teams.
  • Participate in incident response activities as required for cyber security incidents.
  • Develop security metrics to proactively monitor cyber threats and provide trend data.
  • Assist with triage of service requests from customers and internal teams.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree or four years of experience in a related field.
  2. At least one year of experience working in an information security role or supporting an information security program.
  3. Experience in at least one information security domain such as Security Awareness, Vulnerability Management, Cyber-defense, Incident Response and Forensics, or Security Architecture.
  4. Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols and/or network security methodologies.
  5. Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles.
  6. Experience preparing and delivering education and awareness briefings to ensure that systems, networks, and data users are aware of and adhere to system security policies and procedures.
  7. Ability to facilitate small group discussions.
  8. Knowledge of computer-based training and e-learning services.
  9. Knowledge of Learning Management Systems and their use in managing learning.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Master’s degree in a related field or six years of related experience.
  2. Knowledge of PCI, HIPAA, or NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  3. Knowledge of multiple cognitive domains and tools and methods applicable for learning in each domain.
  4. Knowledge of various learning styles and modes of learning.
  5. Skill in utilizing or developing learning activities (e.g. scenarios, instructional games, interactive exercises).
  6. Ability to develop a curriculum that speaks to the topic at the appropriate level for the target audience.
  7. Experience in higher education.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month, on-site, permanent position located on the main campus in Storrs, CT. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. The hiring range for this position is $76,897- $99,966 and will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience.
