Job Description

As a Healthcare Data Analyst, you will be working primarily with Electronic Medical Records, Billing, and Adjudicated Claims data that we receive from our health care provider clients. You will be responsible for understanding the incoming data, identifying locations of data elements of interest, and putting together specifications for engineers on how to transform the incoming data into our standardized data warehouse. This critical point drives the data shape and logical design required to meet data reporting needs.Primary Responsibilities:Conduct gap analysis to compare the client's data structure and content to that of the standard expected for that EMR, billing, or adjudicated claims data sourceLook through the client's data to locate data elements of interest to our application. Complex cases involve reconciliation of data in multiple locations, clever ways of imputing information from sub-par data, and de-duplication strategiesMap client local terminologies to Optum Analytics standard conceptsWork closely with clinical informatics specialists in domains such as lab and medication dataDevelop specifications and ETL code to transform the dataWork closely with engineering and operations teams as the project is implemented, to answer questions and resolve data issues that ariseBe responsible for monthly review of client data and dictionary updates and implementing appropriate revisions to Optum Analytics mapping tablesInvestigate data anomalies to determine root cause, specify appropriate changes and work with engineering and operations teams as the change is implemented and testedResearch client questions on data results by identifying underlying data elements leveraged and providing descriptions of data transformations involvedContribute to technical documentation of specifications and processesParticipate in the ongoing invention, testing and use of tools used by the team to improve processes and bring scale Required Qualifications:2+ years of experience working with patient health care data; EMR claims; clinical data2+ years of experience working with ETL processes (specifications, code development, and/or execution)4+ years of experience working with data, analyzing data and understanding data2+ years of experience working with SQL or another data analysis language (SAS, R, MATLAB)Understanding of relational data bases and their principles of operationMicrosoft ExcelPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree, or work equivalent in health sciences, health information systems, computer science, mathematics, engineering or related field Ability to query large data sets using SQL and query optimization skills.Working knowledge of health information systemsClinical or medical data analysis or management experience highly preferredUnderstanding of clinical or claims processes and vocabulary Exposure to big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and HiveExposure to cloud technologies such as Amazon Web ServicesTechnology Careers with Optum.
