Job Description

The Vertex Summer Co-op Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. Not only will co-ops learn about their day-to-day tasks through their specific work assignments, but they will interact and have exposure to our organizational leaders and their teams through a series of Professional Development Workshops.

Co-op Program: (July- December), Full Time, 40 Hours/Week

The Contracts and Sourcing co-op will work with the other members of the Contracts and Collaborations Management and Sourcing teams. The co-op will learn about contracting, sourcing and procurement processes at Vertex and how these activities support Vertex's mission.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders (contracts and sourcing, preclinical development, legal, finance and procurement) to manage cross-functional communications and support contracting and sourcing process;
  • Assist with review and approval of quotations, project statements and other documents;
  • Assist with processing of purchase orders and similar documents;
  • Enter agreements and associated data into a database and financial management systems;


Qualifications:
  • Must be enrolled in a College/University and have at least finished two years of a bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA Preferred
  • Legally eligible to work onsite
  • Candidates for a graduate degree - MS or JD with undergraduate degree in life sciences - preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to learn new skills, intellectual curiosity
  • Understanding of basic principles of drug development
  • Basic understanding of contracting and procurement process is a plus
  • Proficient within Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
