Job Description

A growing Financial Services client of ours is looking for a key leader for their Enterprise Applications Development team and has engaged us exclusively to identify this Application Development Manager. We are looking a well-rounded senior level IT leader that will oversee application development activities and be responsible for new development and/or maintenance of software products, features, components and tools. The development environment is largely Microsoft .NET based on the business apps side and Wordpress for client-facing web apps. This role will direct both project and functional management efforts during the software development lifecycle and will involve collaboration with other development related functional areas such as architecture, product management and project management to ensure products meet high quality. This position will report directly to the CIO and have 5 direct reports, but there are plans to expand the team in the coming months and that will ultimately be at the discretion of the person in this Application Development Manager seat.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for directing and managing the activities of a team of developers involved in the design, development, deployment, and support of core IT systems. 
  • Manage the software and database development cycle for customizations, regulatory compliance, business rules and formats and project plans, ideally moving more towards a formal Agile process with defined sprint cycles.
  • Lead, coordinate and integrate multiple enterprise-wide Application Development services comprising large and complex application development programs that have significant business impact. 
  • Drive the Application Development services delivery, projects, and the development organization toward achieving the intended business results aligning to enterprise strategies
  • Oversee the design and constructs of extensions, reports, and interfaces with highly variable complexity
  • Work frequently with senior management, various steering committees, functional leaders, and individual team leaders to understand business needs
  • Review technical architecture of new and ongoing projects to ensure long term simplicity, scalability, maintainability, security, and reliability
  • Work with technical operations and support teams to increase stability and reliability of the deployment.  Ensure that the development teams comply with all technical procedures, quality controls, corporate policies and regulatory controls
  • Provide advanced problem-solving and technical support for one or more modules
  • Recommend improvements to application development and strategy, application usage, or process by applying knowledge of the business processes in various functional areas
  • Validate project design, business impact, and resolution of implementation issues
  • Participate in the preparation of group budgets and report on actuals and status of the development
  • Manage, coach, develop, and mentor professional level staff; ensure resources are effectively utilized.  Recruit, hire, lead, motivate and coach staff to continually improve team performance
  • Analyze trends in technology innovations, assessing the impact of emerging technologies, providing solutions to address technology and business issues
  • Foster “customer-centric” attitude, promoting positive agency and team atmosphere through all interactions.
  • Follow up to ensure goals are met through encouragement and constructive feedback and provide direction when needed.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 10+ years of experience in operating at a high level as part of an Enterprise Application Development team.  At least 3 years of experience leading and managing a development team.
  • Prior hands-on development experience with Visual Studio (.NET, C#, SQL Server) and current ability to conduct code reviews. 
  • Strong knowledge of modern Enterprise Application Architecture frameworks and methodologies
  • Well versed in Agile SDLC methodologies and prior experience leading a team to adapt to best practices.
