Job Summary

Each day U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) oversees the massive flow of people, capital, and products that enter and depart the United States via air, land, sea, and cyberspace. The volume and complexity of both physical and virtual border crossings requires the application of "big data" solutions to promote efficient trade and travel. Through the use of effective "big data" technologies and solutions, CBP ensures that the movement of people, capital, and products is legal, safe, and secure.

In response to this challenge, ManTech, as a trusted mission partner of CBP, seeks capable, qualified, and versatile Associate Data Scientists to join our highly dynamic team. As a Data Scientist you will help leverage large structured and unstructured datasets to develop and operationalize models, tools, and applications that drive optimized decision making. You will work on projects like data collection, mining, data and text analytics, clustering analysis, pattern recognition and extraction, automated classification and categorization, and entity resolution to implement and enhance automated risk assessment. You will collaborate with your team to develop and provide actionable insight with real and immediate impact on the safety and security of the United States, its citizens, visitors, and economy. Further, you will work closely and collaboratively with mission stakeholders; respond to emergent, mission-driven changes in priorities and expected outcomes; and, apply new and emerging tools and techniques.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with SQL
  • Experience with one of the following languages: Java, R, or python,
  • Exposure in school developing machine learning models
  • Exposure in school performing data analysis and interpreting results
  • BS Degree in a related technical fields (Computer Science, Math, Statistics, etc.)
  • Clearance: Active Top Secret


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL for data analysis
  • Familiar with Unsupervised Machine Learning methods including Cluster Analysis (e.g., K-means, K-nearest Neighbor, Hierarchical, Deep Belief Networks, Principal Component Analysis), Segmentation, etc.
  • Familiar with Supervised Machine Learning methods including Decision Trees, Support Vector Machines, Logistic Regression, Random/Rotation Forests, Categorization/Classification, Neural Nets, Bayesian Networks, etc.


Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS clearance is required as well as CBP suitability.

Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Background Investigation.

Job Function: Assists in producing innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets. Apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement. Use a flexible, analytical approach to assist in the design, development, and evaluation of predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data. Assist in testing hypotheses and analyze and interpret the results of product experiments. Conducts routine tasks as directed. Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. 0 to 2 years of relevant work experience. Physical Requirements: Sedentary Work
