Power and Controls is looking for an Engineering Manager to provide site leadership of a multi-disciplined technical team in the design, development, and support of aircraft and industrial fuel nozzles. The preferred candidate must have a track record of successfully leading engineering teams in both new product development and product support activities while achieving customer cost, schedule, and performance objectives. The position will be located at the P&C facility in West Des Moines, Iowa and will report directly to the P&C Windsor Locks Product Line Engineering Executive.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Engineering site leadership of all engineering functions
  • Participation in the West Des Moines facility leadership team and site council
  • Meeting customer commitments for new product development by ensuring adherence to the Collins Product Introduction process
  • Supporting in-service products including resolution of field issues using the Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) process, ensuring product improvements are effective (no repeat escapes) and process lessons learned are captured in engineering standard work
  • Supporting new business development and proposal activities
  • Supporting Operations, Quality, and other business functions to achieve defined business unit performance metrics
  • Developing technology roadmaps that are focused on achieving product line growth, improved profitability, and alignment with engineering and business unit objectives
  • Developing engineering associates to improve skills and performance
  • Developing and maintaining engineering standard work, engineering tools, and other engineering processes to achieve continuously improving engineering effectiveness
  • Implementing a culture of continuous improvement through the Collins Aerospace Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) operating system driving toward ACE Gold status
  • Providing communication, as necessary, to Engineering and business unit leadership, senior Collins management, customers, and suppliers
  • Providing regular and effective communication to the engineering team


Basic Qualifications:
  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 8 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated engineering leadership in a product development, product support, or product design role
  • At least 5 years of experience managing direct reports

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Mechanical design experience
  • Experience in the design and/or development of fuel nozzles
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine engines and combustion
  • Program Management or Technical Project Management experience with responsibility for cost and schedule performance
  • Proficiency in ACE and/or Design for Six Sigma

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 10 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 8 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required.
