Project Details:

Microsoft Teams Phone System – Hosted Direct Routing

Project Introduction: To migrate off their existing Avaya IP-PBX to Microsoft Teams Phone System.  Service Provider is proposing its cloud-based Microsoft Teams Direct Routing solutions based on Nuwave Communications iPilot platform.  This solution consists of a geo-redundant multi-tenant carrier grade Session Border Controllers (“SBC’s”), carrier services, and E911 that’s supported with Microsoft Teams.  This service will provide cost savings to CLIENT compared to Microsoft Public Switched Telephone Network (“PTSN”) Calling Plans as it’s based on usage needs in a shared model. The primary objective of this integration is to allow CLIENT to consolidate to a single Unified Communication (“UC”) CLIENT, Microsoft Teams (“Teams”), to provide voice capabilities at the desktop and mobile devices. 

Objective Client is engaging Service Provider to provide infrastructure consulting services to assist with the deployment of Microsoft Teams voice capabilities for its back-office employees.  Please note, Teams Direct Routing only works when users are enabled for TeamsOnly mode.  CLIENT will need to ensure all users are enabled for TeamsOnly mode to support Direct Routing.Service Provider will conduct a planning session with CLIENT IT personnel to identify voice features and services currently being utilized on Avaya to be migrated to Teams.  Please note, Microsoft Teams does not have feature parity with Avaya.  Service Provider will work with CLIENT to identify any feature gaps and strategize on any possible workarounds. Upon completion of the planning phase, if additional components are needed to support CLIENT telephony needs, such as Analog ATA devices, devices, or licensing, Service Provider  will work with CLIENT to create a change order to this SOW to have these services and/or hardware ordered.

Service Provider will integrate the iPilot solution with client existing Office 365 tenant.  To support this integration, CLIENT must create a dedicated service account to manage the solution.  Service Provider  has confirmed that the service will integrate with Five 9’s Contact Center to allow the transfers of calls between back-office workers and contact center agents.  Once Direct Routing is active, Service Provider  and client will identify a pilot group to test the service before production roll-out begins.  Teams Call Queues, Auto Attendants, and Dynamic E911 will be configured based on requirements identified in the planning phase.

There is no integration with the existing Avaya on-premise IP-PBX.  Users will leverage native Teams Point to Point (P2P) calling as the organization is transitioning from Avaya to Microsoft Teams.

Service Provider   is responsible for the following work items to complete this engagement. The engagement scope includes the following activities and objectives:

  • Schedule & Review call flow and dial plan
  • Identify needed voice features.
  • Identify Auto Attendant and Call Queue needs.
  • Identify analog requirements.
  • Review Dynamic E911 setup.
  • Review Active Directory Telephone Number fields
  • Create Project Plan
  • Solution Alignment

Preparing the Environment

Prepare and deliver Firewall documentation to CLIENT Security Team

Create dedicated iPilot Service Account

Place Teams native IP handsets on desks

Direct Routing

  • Initiate Tenant Validation
  • Setup Session Initiation Protocol (“SIP”) Trunk to Five 9 Contact Center
  • Port pilot group Direct Inward Dial (“DIDs”) to iPilot
  • Port back-office employee DID’s to iPilot based on identified cutover schedule
  • Assign DID’s to end users
  • Configure Dynamic E9114.

Office 365

  • Configure Dynamic E911
  • Emergency Addresses  
  • Networks & Locations
  • Configure identified voice policies
  • Verify Direct Routing Configuration
  • Configure Call Quality Dashboard
  • Call Park Policies
  • Caller ID Policies

 

Test Plan

  • Enable users for Microsoft Teams Phone System
  • Test inbound/outbound calls from Teams client.
  • Test inbound/outbound calls from Teams to Five 9’s
  • Test e911, Auto Attendant and any other special configurations identified during the planning phase

Admin Training

Provide Office 365 Microsoft Teams Phone System Admin Training –  Two (2) Hours

Client Responsibilities

The client team will participate in this engagement as follows:

1.Approve Service Provider  as Claiming Partner of Record (CPOR) for Teams Calling workload

2.Provide dedicated Office 365 service account for iPilot service with required roles

  1. Global Admin (Only needed for initial setup)
  2. Teams Administrator
  3. Skype for Business Admin
  4. User Admin

3.Coordinate CLIENT resources and staff schedules

4.Provide Office 365 Tenant with appropriate licensing to support Microsoft Phone System

5.E.164 compliant Active Directory structure

6.Internal and external Domain Name System (DNS) changes, for those that Service Provider does not currently manage

7.Review and approve engagement deliverables

8.Deploy clients & workstation updates

9.Deploy Teams to workstations

  1. Provide end user training to CLIENT community on new telephony platform
  2. Provide untethered remote access to Service Provider Solution Architect (Example: VPN)
  3. Purchase any physical phone sets, Microsoft certified to work with Teams
