Work Summary

Looking for a Backend Engineer within the Global Equity Derivatives IT team to contribute to the development of the GED platform. The GED ecosystem is comprised of interconnected micro services which are hosted in a distributed, concurrent, and fault-tolerant platform called Hydra, which manages the execution and distribution of compute agents, long-running services, and line-of-business applications. The team is looking for strong, motivated, tech savvy individuals, who love solving the challenges related to scalability, real-time messaging, and high availability. The technology for Hydra is based on the Erlang stack (Erlang, Elixir, Phoenix), but the team also manages the SDK's for other programming languages: C/C++, Java/Scala, .NET, NodeJS, etc. that other developers use to run their applications on the platform.

This project aims to provide the best-in-class platform solution for the GED business, one that will achieve virtually zero-downtime while enabling future expansion of the business. Being able to interop with any application-level stack is paramount importance, while allowing for horizontal scaling with expanding demands for real-time compute and data publication. Hydra has been completely redesigned to take advantage of the power and scalability that comes with the Erlang VM.

The successful candidates are creative software developers who take great pride in both the technical and business contribution of their work, owning their own design and are passionate about customer experience and delivering great software. GED developers are highly adaptable to changing requirements, cutting-edge technology tools, technology stack, and tight delivery timelines.

  • Configure and develop custom components with technology partners (analysts, developers, designers etc.) to meet requirements and goals.
  • Proactively put forward & suggest ideas that speak to project objectives (e.g. development, testing solutions, and tools).

  • A passionate developer who is motivated to embrace a broad range of tasks associated with developing application and systems solutions to address business challenges.
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Transform business requirements and research into winning delivery solutions that meet performance goals.
  • Earn voraciously, stretch your thinking, share your knowledge and educate others.
  • Embrace change and witness amazing things happen from the inside.
  • At least 7 years of software experience with emphasis on back-end and services development.
  • Experience in at least one of these languages: Node.JS, C++ 11, Java 8, or .NET 4 is preferable.
  • Knowledge of networking principles, distributed systems, and socket programming.
  • Experience in NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, Riak, Cassandra, etc.) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, functional and object-oriented programming.
  • Excellent understanding of agile methodologies is a must.
  • Able to analyze complex issues from multiple perspectives and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Able to think be creative, think critically, go beyond the status quo, and provide innovative/creative solutions to existing problems.
