JOB FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Information Technology at Ferguson acquires, designs, implements, and operates the organization's information technology resources, including computer hardware, operating systems, communications, software applications, data processing and security.

A Business Systems Analyst is responsible for the analysis, documentation, configuration, unit testing, functional testing, communication and approval of functional/non-functional business requirements for software applications, 3rd party vendor packages, or infrastructure implementations. The Business Systems Analyst is the liaison between the Ferguson business groups/departments and the Information Technology department.

Sets objectives for own job with the understanding of how output would affect and impact other job areas related to own job. Contributes and provides input to the development of operational area, (e.g. immediate team of associates) goals within the context of own job area. Work consists of tasks that are typically not routine, works independently and applies discretion within established operational boundaries and procedures. Work direction is only provided for new areas of work or unique assignments.

PROBLEM SOLVING:

Problems and issues faced need a moderate degree of reasoning and analysis to address problems and issues. Updates and/or modifies working methods based on past experiences, and identifies solutions to problems by recognizing similarities through data trends. Has higher autonomy to arrive at solutions to non-routine problems within established operational boundaries and procedures. Uses personal experiences, makes reasonable judgment calls, and may call on other resources where necessary to identify solutions.

JOB DUTIES: You will analyze the business' needs to identify use cases, and if necessary new processes, process improvements that will meet those needs.
  • You will elicit, analyze, and document business and user requirements.
  • You will analyze detailed system factors including input/output requirements, information and process flow, data, integration, controls, security, hardware and software needs.
  • Provide initial analysis on business impact factors including: roles, responsibilities, policy, culture, etc, working with business process team and organizational change management.
  • Lead the prioritization and sizing of business requirements leveraging the MoSCoW (Must Have, Should Have, Could Have, Won't Have) approach.
  • Evaluate the impact of potential software and process changes on the organization.
  • Create business case documentation on behalf of the Product Manager and/or the business stakeholders.
  • You will configure small to medium size MoSCoW items using out of the box capabilities
  • Create configuration runbooks to support deployments across the environments.
  • Modify application configurations from detailed specifications.
  • Write test scripts and use cases.
  • You may act as a project manager for small internal projects.
  • Perform unit testing and functional testing for configurations.
  • Review design documents for project requirements/user stories.
  • Conduct system demonstrations, training sessions, as well as participate in design/review of training content.
  • You will play a third level support role by helping to troubleshoot and resolve issues with production systems.
  • You will be effective in a variety of formal/informal presentation settings: one-on-one, small and large group.
  • Provide mentorship to junior level associates.
  • Participate in associate meetings and communicates concerns to management.

  • Perform other duties or functions as requested by management.


  • QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    PRIOR EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Related or Business Related field is required to perform at the expectation
  • Business Analysis experience can be substituted for education
  • Minimum of 7 years Ferguson business and software domain knowledge is preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years business analysis experience is typically required


  • TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:

    You are expected to operate at the specialist level across the following areas of technical knowledge and skill:You are detail-oriented, proactive, creative, efficient, and an active listener with the ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Intermediate level abilities in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word
  • You can handle simultaneous projects and show expertise in one business domain.
  • You communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences in a written and non-written format.
  • You can work with minimal supervision in a very dynamic environment. (We are remote until the end of the year at least, ultimately we are going to return to the office when it is safe)
  • You have the ability and drive to learn new systems and tools.
  • You understand the SDLC methodologies, processes, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of a project team responsible for providing technical guidance concerning the business implications of the application of various systems.
