The strategy analyst works for Health Sciences Strategy in the Office of the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and reports to the Associate Vice President for Strategy and the Director of Strategy. Health Sciences Strategy is a dynamic work environment in which analysts contribute to an array of projects aimed at achieving core health sciences missions. The position calls for detail-oriented analysis as well as an ability to think critically, abstractly, and theoretically. Successful performance is demonstrated through management and analysis of complex databases, completion of business analyses (e.g., market assessments and pro forma financial statements) and assisting in the design and articulation of business strategy. Day-to-day tasks include providing highly accurate information related to planning, policy, development, organizational structure and industry trends.
Coordination of simultaneous projects, under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Strategy and the Director of Strategy, is essential to the success of Health Sciences Strategy. The following is representative of work performed by strategic planning analysts but is not all-inclusive:
•Tracks and evaluates the progress of identified planning elements through the use of existing databases and new data capture.
• Update and maintain visualizations and dashboards with new data as it comes available.
•Prepares documents and presentations with clear, cogent writing and effective graphical illustrations of arguments and findings.
•Supports the collection of national, regional, and local trends for benchmark and competitive analysis.
•Provides intellectual support regarding health care industry research and trends.
•Coordinates special projects and issues with requesting departments by identifying potential data sources, gathering needed data and providing situational analyses.
•Keeps abreast of developments and changing technologies and applications via self- initiated professional development. Shows a willingness to participate in continuing education courses, professional organizations, attends training and trade seminars, and maintains professional contacts in the community and the industry.
•Undertakes other responsibilities as needed to support the implementation of health system strategy.
•Supports the Health Sciences Strategy team in the creation and maintenance of innovative data visualizations by utilizing new tools and data.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in related area (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Two to four years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
A successful candidate would have a bachelor’s degree or higher in statistics, econometrics, quantitative social science, finance, business administration, applied science or a related field. It is necessary that a candidate is able to work cooperatively and effectively in the context of a large, highly complex academic medical center. Effective communication skills, intellectual creativity, analytical acumen, and a strong work ethic are needed. A flexible work schedule is also expected. The candidate needs to be able thrive in situations that demand high performance under short deadlines. The right candidate would have extensive experience with statistical software packages (e.g., Python, R, Stata) and coding ability.
Interest or experience in business strategy, business development, healthcare transformation, finance, database management, advanced statistical analysis and modeling, and non-linear systems thinking is important. Products developed by Health Sciences Strategy are often written and/or graphical. As such, talent for communication, visual depiction and writing is desired.
