The Data Analyst manages portions of the university-wide logical data model and participates in all aspects of the information systems development lifecycle, including systems design analysis.
1.Leads project team in the identification of pertinent data issues, and prepares comprehensive project plans and timelines for data design, testing, conversion, and implementation.
2.Performs routine and complex data administration activities within department, including generating and reviewing table creation/alteration scripts, creating scripts for data alteration and cleanup, ensuring data integrity.
3.Coordinates with technical staff to ensure acceptable database performance; coordinates database outages, database copies, and other database activities.
4.Creates and maintains data dictionaries, Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) models, and guidelines for database usage and availability.
5.Coordinates and reviews data initiatives during application upgrades; communicates effect of data changes to project team. Writes data conversion programs. Reviews and tests vendor and customer-supplied data conversion scripts to ensure accuracy and content.

7.Reviews programmer, vendor and customerSQLand assists withSQLtuning.
8.Develops data test plans, validates data integrity and accuracy, diagnoses and corrects data discrepancies.
9.Gathers information from vendors on product features, support, and future development.
10.Actively participates and leads in the PeopleSoft fix/upgrade process.
11.75% of the time functioning as a DA and 25% as anSDE(Systems Design Engineer) doing work in creating technical specs for developers and troubleshooting and resolving functional production issues.
The incumbent works independently with minimal supervision, and has authority to make decisions related to project implementation.
The incumbent is expected to solve technical and communication problems. An example of technical problem solving is modifying an existing software component to create desired results (e.g. a report) for a customer. An example of communication problem solving is extracting pertinent business or system information from a customer.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in related area (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Two to four years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Broad knowledge of data design, specifically with Oracle databases and the implementation environment. Proficiency with data modeling tools, ad hoc database access tools, query/reporting software, andSQL. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to lead small and mid-sized projects. Ability to accurately estimate effort to complete projects. Proficiency in the Windows environment and basic desktop application suites, including word processing, spreadsheet, and email. Demonstrated human relations and communications skills, and ability to work in a team environment. A strong commitment to excellence in service.

Three to five years progressively responsible experience that includes data or business analysis, large systems implementation, and project management experience; a degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field may be used to offset experience.
Knowledge and experience in a large research university. Experience with PeopleSoft application software and implementation in a Unix/Oracle environment. Experience with PS Application Designer, PSQuery, andSQLDeveloper. PeopleSoft Finance experience, including functional and technical experience in Financial applications, grants, and the Application Upgrade Methodology. Ability to code in one or more programming or scripting languages, includingSQLandSQR. Experience with the PeopleSoft fix and upgrade process (i.e. Change Assistant).
