Job Description

This position reports to the Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations.  The Contract Senior Network Engineer will be a critical role in the headquarters office in San Carlos supporting the on-site Iovance staff and other US based Iovance offices remotely. The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership, troubleshooting, communication and customer service skills. The position will spend half of the time helping with helpdesk tickets and problem solving, and other half of the time ensuring corporate IT infrastructure is well maintained, robust and dependable through variety of system projects

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
  • Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
  • Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
  • Replacing faulty network hardware components when required.
  • Maintaining, configuring, and monitoring virus protection software and email applications.
  • Monitoring network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made.
  • Conferring with network users about solving existing system problems.
  • Operating master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems.
  • Coordinating computer network access and use.
  • Designing, configuring, and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software.
  • Support the implementation and documentation of various software management systems including VMware, Active Directory, antivirsecurity solutions and O365 Exchange Online.
  • Manage Active Directory services including but not limited to: DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, and Certificate Services.
  • Plan and oversee the distribution of client/server software and service packs via group policy or other processes.
  • Execute server updates, service packs, firmware, bios and antivirus (AV) updates, ensuring the execution creates no or minimal downtime to the business operations.
  • Backup support for infrastructure and operation security profile (AV, encryption, firewalls, etc.).
  • Provide backup support of network infrastructure (LANs, ELANs, VLANs and VPNs) and cloud-based telephone systems and take appropriate action to correct issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation on the servers, backup / recovery process, Active Directory, VMware and AV systems.
  • Document all issues in department work order system and ensure all issues are current in their documentation.
  • Organize and maintain the inventory of server and network hardware and software resources ensuring systems have appropriate licensing and warranty coverage.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 5-7 years of experience in providing IT Operations and Infrastructure support in the life sciences industry.
  • Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.
  • Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewall, routers, switches, controllers.
  • Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols.

 

Preferred/Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Education:

 

  • Experience with VoIP system including troubleshooting and system management.
  • Validation experience to FDA CFR 21 Part 11 requirements. Ability to support a GxP environment with related GMP procedures.
  • Lab computer experience is a plus.
  • Firewall Management, VPN Management, Switch Management
  • Storage Management
  • Understanding of various protocols, TCP/IP, HTTP(S), SSL, WWW, JMS, FTP, Telnet, DNS, DHCP, VNC, RDP, NAT, SMTP
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, HP Hardware Support, MCSE, or other relevant certifications
  • College degree: BS in Computer Science or Information Systems.
