We'll be looking for you to be part of the Western Union platform organization designing, building, enhancing and supporting the enterprise class systems that power Western Union. This role works across the IT organization and with business partners to define and build out complex solutions and drive value through business process simplification, automation and new product capabilities. You will play a critical role in designing and developing data systems that are the engine behind Western Union . Key areas that you will be responsible for will include developing and delivering long-term strategic goals for data architecture vision and standards in conjunction with data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders. You will create short-term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall data management road map. This role will be responsible for creating end-to-end vision on how logical design translates into one or more physical databases, and how the data will flow through the successive stages You will establish methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy, compliance and improvement. You'll create strategies and plans for data capacity planning, data security, life-cycle data management, scalability, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and archiving. You'll ensure that data strategies and architectures are in regulatory compliance. This role will recognize and identify potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones are needed. You'll participate in agile software development life cycle from story grooming through detailed design, coding, functional testing, code review and retrospectives. Part of this role will assist support teams in solving user issues. You will be mentoring and responsible for leading the on-shore and off-shore team members
For a director level role, we require you to have p ossess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field as well as have 10+ Years of software development experience, as well as 3-5 years of data design experience. You'll need to have strong communication skills both verbal and written. You'll possess extensive data architecture design skills. You'll have experience with Agile software development practices and tools. You'll possess strong SQL development and data modelling skills as well as have experience with SOA and micro-services design principles and patterns. You'll have expertise in data architecture, strategy and road map planning for a large and complex organization. You'll need to have expertise in data quality, profiling, governance, security, metadata management, archiving and migration strategies using appropriate tools. This person will have hands-on experience with ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) tools (e.g. Informatica, Talend, Pentaho) as well as hands-on experience with BI tools and reporting software (e.g. OBIEE). You'll have experience with high-scale or distributed RDBMS (Teradata, Netezza, Greenplum, Aster Data, Vertica). You'll have driven delivery in a matrixed environment working with various internal IT partners. You must be able to work independently and have skills in planning, strategy, estimation, scheduling,
A preferred candidate will possess an advanced computer science or engineering degree and have strong experience with distributed system design. You'll have experience with software development life-cycle tools like Jira and Confluence. You'll possess cloud-based software development skills using AWS/Azure and have experience with financial services and payments. It would be well received if you have hands-on experience with the Hadoop stack (e.g. MapReduce, Sqoop, Pig, Hive, Hbase, Flume)
And have knowledge of cloud computing infrastructure (e.g. Amazon Web Services EC2, Elastic MapReduce) and considerations for scalable, distributed systems. You'll have knowledge of NoSQL platforms (e.g. key-value stores, graph databases, RDF triple stores)
