Data Architect

Job Summary: Talent Software Services is in search of a Data Architect ffor a contract position in Belle Plaine, MN. Opportunity will be six months with a strong chance for a long-term extension.

Position Summary: As a strategist, the Data Architect evaluates the current state of the company's databases and other data systems identifying new opportunities and solutions to increase efficiency and performance. The Data Architect visualizes, designs, and prepares data in a framework that data scientists, engineers, and analysts can use. The Data Architect often takes data from disparate sources and develops a vision for combining those sources into a more cohesive, easier-to-use framework. The Data Architect must create an end-to-end vision for how a design might translate into physical databases and how to integrate disparate sources of data. Data Architects work closely with users as well as Developers to create plans. The Data Architect needs to be able to model and predict how changes in the way an organization acquires data could impact the way the organization uses that data, and map out the way data will flow through the various stages of a project.
The Data Architect will understand the complexity of existing critical systems and propose alternatives to sustain and scale.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive enterprise data strategies, including data modeling, implementation, and data management for enterprise data warehouses, and advanced data analytics systems
  • Responsible for planning and implementing data management for new data sources, publicly available data, business-to-business partnerships, and advanced data analytics systems all following the comprehensive enterprise data strategy
  • Gather requirements, gain business and IT alignment, perform vendor and product evaluations, mentor business and IT resources
    Work with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end technical and business viability
  • Ensure the successful delivery of solutions, training and documentation
  • Provide leadership in establishing operational and analytic environments
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, business stakeholders, Product Owners, Developers and vendors to identify data-driven solutions to solve business problems and extend business capabilities in the areas Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Finance.
  • Delliver solutions according to system functional specifications, by applying patterns, best practices, and industry standards. Document these requirements using visual and written methodologies that allow business stakeholders to understand the value stream of the outcomes as well as provide the development team technical context to the work items they will be delivering.
  • Deliver direct communication and leadership to team members, peers, and business stakeholders that informs, educates, and sets expectations throughout the solution delivery process. Advise IT leadership, and other technology and business resources, with ideas regarding how technology processes and tools can be continuously improved. Be the customer go-to expert for any data initiatives acting as the SME and technical reference point.
  • Provide mentorship and collaborate with development team members on any questions, concerns, or issues they raise about work items they are delivering.
  • Be comfortable operating alongside on site as well as distributed delivery teams through a variety of collaboration and communication mechanisms, including remote meeting services, online documentation, platforms, and agile lifecycle management tools for defining and tracking delivery of business requirements
  • Explore and communicate new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices, technology advancement and vendors in Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence and emerging technology solutions
  • Keep abreast of AI/Client developments in order to provide sustainable architectural mentorship

  • 7+ years experience in customer-facing technical design, solution definition, delivery of measurable business outcomes, and system integration
  • Deep experience with technologies that scale client's operational processes in areas such as process manufacturing, discrete manufacturing, quality, warehousing, and distribution. These include core technologies and concepts such as:
    • Industry 4.0, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, Predictive Machine Analytics
    • Database systems such as SnowFlake, Oracle, MySQL, ElasticSearch, or SQL Server
    • ETL technologies, Kafka streams, MQTT
    • SSIS, Tableau, Qlik Replicate, Business Objects
    • Web service development with .NET or Python
    • Applicable experience developing and delivering solutions on SaaS, IaaS, or PaaS systems
  • Digital Transformation experience is highly desirable. This includes being able to create and present a cohesive solution that may leverage legacy and current systems to deliver business outcomes.
  • Experience working in Agile development teams, and agile lifecycle management tools, preferably Jira
  • Deep experience with agile software delivery practices such as Scrum and Kanban using boards and user stories to manage work items and intake
  • Excellent written, verbal and group presentation communication skills including the ability to articulate solutions in many formats so that they are consumable by development teams, business stakeholders, and audiences external to client.
  • Experience building solutions within a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) environment
  • Experience with event-driven architecture and microservices
  • Excellence in interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and time management skills is a must.
  • Strong ability to anticipate and communicate potential problems while determining solutions through written, visual, and verbal communications.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, be a divergent thinker, and make educated decisions regarding data and interpersonal issues even when all facts are not known.
  • Must be resourceful in situations where a high level of uncertainty exists, anticipate and identify risks, provide mitigation strategies, and adapt to the adversity and natural evolutions of
    solution delivery.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent post-secondary education
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related area, demonstrating both professional and management capabilities, and extensive experience in collecting business requirements from customers and transforming those requirements into business solutions are strongly preferred.
