The primary responsibilities of the Investment Data Engineer are to develop and/or sustain applications for the Investment Data Technology team, to provide technical guidance on complex applications, programming and integration projects, and to contribute to our ongoing migration to an AWS-based Data Lake.
You will develop and maintain data pipelines for efficient data ingestion/collection, architect and implement data processing and storage solutions as well as enable data consumption through a variety of applications and tools. Technologies include (not limited to) AWS big data stack, Java, Python & SQL among others.
You will work closely with and provide design specifications to Database Administration, Data Architects, and BI development staff to optimize overall design.
You will analyze the business and technical requirements for data systems and applications; Scope, estimate, and schedule project work; Coordinate the integration of IT policies, procedures and development practices.
You will identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
You will research emerging data technology, applications, and integration frameworks to continuously improve the data lake/warehouse platform and practices.

Education & Experience:
A Bachelor s degree preferably in Computer Science or Engineering
3 - 5+ years of experience with big data technology programs and services, with a track record of delivering systems that help businesses extract value from large datasets.
Hand s on experience with AWS Cloud platform and services, in particular S3, EC2, Lambda, Athena, Glue.
Experience working as a member of agile data technology development teams
Advanced knowledge of SQL as well as big data technology platforms, ETL/ELT tools and techniques as well as Business Intelligence (BI), analytics and AI services and tools.
Experience with AWS Cloud platform and services
Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and find opportunities for improvement.
Understanding of big data systems and life-cycle management best practices and methodologies.
Experience building and maintaining key business relationships.
Good communication skills and customer relationship skills.
Experience with advanced analytics tools and languages such as R, Python, Java, SAS, and others.
Ability to work across multiple deployment environments including cloud (preferably AWS), on-premises, and hybrid models.
Knowledge of data lake concepts and related technologies
Experience working with data science and quantitative research teams.
Experience working with financial market data vendor platforms such as FactSet, Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters and alternative data sets.
Familiarity with data discovery, analytics, and BI tools such as Tableau.
Experience working in a SSAE 16 or similar level of controls environment.
Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), web services, enterprise data management, information security, applications development, and cloud-based architectures.
Knowledge of configuration management and version control processes.
