Job Description

Mission 

This position will be responsible for supporting EBSCO's custom database products in the live production environment using various scheduling and monitoring applications. Reporting to the Team Lead of Data Integration, this position calls for an experienced analyst/engineer who has a proven track record in application operation and management as well as vendor support.  The ideal candidate should be a self-starter that can handle multiple priorities simultaneously.  Additionally, the candidate should display a pattern of continual learning and an ability to drive improvements to existing processes and tools. 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Execute, monitor, and report on data-loading workflows to ensure reliable deployment of data updates from EBSCO’s Information Providers 
  • Serve as primary level two escalation point for requests coming from offshore teams.
  • Ensure adherence to SLAs by continual monitoring and timely resolution of deployment blockages 
  • Document procedures and ensure compliance 
  • Collaborate with Agile development teams and product owners to develop high-quality solutions 
  • Participate in the design and development of infrastructure and tools for the team 
  • Automate current manual tasks to achieve efficiency and scalability 
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team 
  • Act as a consultant to other departments in successfully implementing new products, processes and systems 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Quantitative/Analytical field or 4+ years’ experience  
  • 3+ years of experience operating within a Unix/Linux and/or Windows environment 
  • 2+ years of experience operating or administering software (scheduling and monitoring applications) 
  • 2+ years of experience with T-SQL  and relational databases
  • 1+ year of experience with Python and related data analysis libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy)

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple tasks concurrently 
  • Ability to work well in a team environment 
  • 1+ year of experience in Agile or Lean/Agile software development methodologies
  • 1+ year of experience with Rally
  • 1+ year of experience with Tableau or other data visualization software
  • 1+ year of experience reading/validating XML documents

OBJECTIVES:

Within 30 days:

Learn the database pipeline value stream for LSDs: attend daily stand ups and able to describe overall workflow, understand the key players, roles and responsibilities.

Onboard and train on both the production environment and analyst landscape

Identify two areas of opportunity/improvement within the value stream or analysis domain

Obtain a list and information on Content Management tools and identify which Content Management tool (Tableau report, web application, automated reporting system) to become a backup on.

Obtain an understanding of SLS

Begin to handle primary escalation support of offshore vendors monitoring the production environment

 

Within 60 days:

Drive and implement improvements identified

Share industry trends and best practice recommendations regularly

Contribute to and/or own internal documentation

Actively participate in the Content Management Enhancements workflow and support efforts to add or migrate documentation to the CM Dev, Reporting & Analytics SharePoint 365 repository

Complete training on at least 1 major Content Management tool best suited to your skillset (a Tableau report, web application, automated reporting system) and become a backup for said item

Assist with special projects as needed

 

Within 90 days:

Review at least 1 emerging technology (either one newly adopted within EBSCO or something totally new) and propose ways it could be leveraged to improve operational efficiencies

Support establishing AWS-based data pipeline or similar as needed
