Position Overview: 

The Data Quality Engineer’s role is to develop and execute data quality assurance standards in support of data engineering services.  This role is part of the newly formed data engineering team, which is rolling out state of the art ETL and warehousing technologies, governance, and data architecture.  The Data Quality Engineer will develop and manage test plans, scripts, and metrics based on data quality dimensions.  This role will also be responsible for ensuring QA procedures are followed in the SDLC process.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Instill good QA practices and procedures within the data engineering team.
  • Perform QA testing and validation on production data feed and ETL changes via SQL scripts and other tools.
  • Develop QA metrics for the ecosystem.
  • Document QA processes and procedures.
  • Identify data discrepancies and quality issues and collaborate with data stewards to ensure consistency and integrity through proper data lineage tracking and governance projects.
  • Understand compliance requirements and develop practices to meet them.
  • Support agile SDLC process.
  • Support data modeling initiatives.
  • Work with end-users to understand needs and assist in the deployment of practices and tools for BI data extraction, queries, and data manipulation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • College degree in information systems or related field and/or 3+ years equivalent work experience.
  • Experience or exposure to the following technologies:
    • data quality practices and principles
    • database platforms, for example Snowflake, SQL Server, etc.
    • ETL tools or processes, such as Talend, etc.
    • SQL scripting, JavaScript, JSON, etc.
    • cloud providers such as AWS
  • Knowledge or interest in the following methodologies:
    • information quality frameworks
    • business requirements gathering/analysis
    • data warehouse support
    • relational database structures, principles, and practices
    • technical support documentation
  • General skills:
    • analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
    • written and oral communication
    • inquisitive and able to research best practices, technologies, and standards
    • self-starter, able to prioritize and execute tasks
    • collaborate in an agile, team-oriented environment
