Job Description


NETE is seeking a junior to early mid-level information security professional to join our Information Security Operations (ISO) Team as an Data Scientist I (Information Security). Our ISO Team provides Information Security subject matter expertise and cutting-edge data analytics to multiple Federal clients, and helps each client respond to and find ways to prevent or mitigate events that compromise their security posture. The Information Security Data Scientist I is part of a larger Information Security Team, and works closely with a client-facing lead to develop and carry out day-to-day analytics pertaining to security incidents and system vulnerabilities identified through scheduled scans and/or reported by users through a centralized Helpdesk. The Information Security Data Scientist I provide technical direction to other analysts assigned to the ISO Team; ensures the accurate processing and analysis of all information security data; and designs and conducts small-scale studies to help Federal clients strengthen their security posture in today's technological landscape.

Responsibilities:


At the direction of company leadership, provide direct information security response support and analytics to Information Security Officers and other Federal officials.
Coordinate, carry out, and oversee activities related to the processing, cleaning, validation, analysis and reporting of security incident and vulnerabilities data.
Proactively design and oversee small-scale information security studies using available data to help optimize and strengthen client operations in this area.
Establish and maintain ongoing communications with Senior Data Scientists and company leadership for the purposes of reporting emerging issues and requirements; gauging progress on project deliverables; and identifying and mitigating factors that may affect company performance as it relates to timelines and deliverables for information security analytics.
Integrate industry-leading data visualization techniques for information security data in all products and solutions.
Implement agile methodologies and other project management frameworks to boost company performance and efficiencies in this area.
Track, monitor, and provide weekly updates on project progress, successes, barriers, and potential solutions to company leadership during weekly update meetings.
Assist in designing, as well as participate in ongoing Quality Assurance and Quality Control efforts to maximize service levels while minimizing costs.

Security Incidents




Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in assessing, responding to, and monitoring security incidents reported by users through Helpdesk technologies such as RemedyForce, JIRA, SalesForce, or other similar technologies.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in prioritizing security incidents according to urgency and perceived impact on the client.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in cross-sectional, time series, and longitudinal analysis of security incidents using advanced statistical modeling techniques.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in data management and data processing of security incident data.




Vulnerabilities




Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in assessing, responding to, and monitoring system and configuration-related vulnerabilities detected through scan technologies such as Tenable, AppScan, Retina, Sentinel, or other similar technologies.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in accessing, monitoring, and interpreting data obtained from the National Vulnerability Database.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in cross-sectional, time series, and longitudinal analysis of vulnerability data using advanced statistical modeling techniques.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in data management and data processing of vulnerability data.




Data Science & Visualization




Knowledge of, and applied experience, in designing small-scale studies of information security with existing data.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in data processing, data management, and data cleaning.
Knowledge of, and applied technical experience, in using descriptive and inferential statistics with information security data.
Knowledge of, and applied experience, in methodologies used for predictive analysis, data mining, and simulation.
Knowledge of, and applied experience, in using statistical packages including (but not limited to) SAS, SPSS, R, or Excel.
Knowledge of, and applied experience, with industry-leading data visualization techniques.




Project Management




Knowledge of, and applied professional experience, in implementing Agile philosophies and methodologies.
Knowledge of, and applied experience, in working with, tasking, and supporting other data analysts.
Knowledge of, and applied professional experience, with managing and maintaining version control tools such as SharePoint, Git, Teams, Jira, and/or Teamworks.
Knowledge of, and applied experience, in writing one-pagers, briefs, reports for different audiences.
