This position provides technical support of Data Warehouse servers that operate the MicroStrategy software and associated Business Intelligence tools. The position also requires documentation of policies and procedures as they apply to the server configuration, as well as report generation and modifications.   This position will also serve in a back-up role for some system architect tasks.  This position will take direction from the Systems Development Manager and co-ordinate activities with SRE Computer Operations, Unix System Administrator, PC Desktop Services, Data Warehouse team members, and Oracle Database Administrators.



  • Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of company information within the framework of the DW, Business Intelligence, and Reporting.

  • Administer, maintain, and monitor, all BI servers daily. Make adjustments, and perform maintenance. Assist with any necessary hardware updates required to server configuration.

  • Monitor database and application performance, and recommend/perform tuning activities.

  • Perform periodic audits of the referential integrity and data confidentiality within the DW data.

  • Perform installations of updates, patches, and upgrades of MicroStrategy software and other tools.

  • As part of a larger team, provide support to end users for MicroStrategy Software and Hardware infrastructure used to provide access to the Data Warehouse application.

  • Consult with Data Warehouse Architect/Developer position on any changes or requirements that may affect existing Metadata and User projects within the MicroStrategy environment.

  • Make recommendations to management for any revisions or upgrades required to current or future platform configuration and purchase of required user license agreements.

  • Create and maintain reports, dashboards, and all essential decision support reporting utilizing the MicroStrategy software as assigned or required in support of end-users.

  • Support the report creation of external developers/agents that work in departments outside of I.T.

  • Provide technical support and training to end-user community that access any of the BI products and tools

  • Serve as technical liaison to vendor representatives as required for resolution of reported problems and for periodic review by our Business Intelligence tools.

  • Work with all appropriate hardware/software constituents when planning upgrades that may affect current production schedules or have an impact on any end-users ability to use current applications.

  • Communicate in writing to all hardware/software constituents when system downtime is required to perform necessary maintenance or upgrade tasks and provide follow-up feedback regarding completion of those activities.



This position requires a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline that has a strong focus on technical support of data analysis. For this position, it is required to have a minimum of 3 years of information technology experience in a Data Warehouse environment, with strong SQL skills in a relational database platform, and support of a front end reporting and adhoc tool.  It is also important to understand and have worked actively with a project life cycle.  

Experience with MicroStrategy and/or TOAD Datapoint is a plus. Knowledge of the Oracle database is also a plus.

Must be able to work as part of a larger team, with others, in a role-based environment.
